Chapter 674
Marguerite flashed a weary smile. "Got it. But are you planning on telling Robert?"
Miley shook her head. "Let's hold off on that. He's just starting to get his bearings back, and we've got a funeral
to plan. If he gets wind of this, he'll lose it! We'll talk after the funeral. Besides, you've got me, right?"
Miley spoke until her throat was dry, and Violet quickly handed her a bottle of sparkling water.
"Ms. Goldie, | remember you majored in Finance back in college, but you seem to have a knack for detective
work."
Taking a gulp of her drink, Miley responded, "You're quite observant."
Marguerite cracked a smile and explained, "Her day job is as a private investigator. There's hardly anything she
can't dig up. Given that her future mother-in-law is involved, it's personal this time. She's more invested than
usual. You'll get used to it."

"If President Penelope could see how dedicated Ms. Goldie is, she'd be touched," Violet said, her voice quivering
with emotion.
The unexpected tears in Violet's eyes caught both women off guard. Miley leaned in, "Why the tears? Did you
know my mother-in-law?"
Violet quickly wiped her eyes. "No, it's just... I'm just moved, that's all. Ms. Goldie, you two carry on. I've got work
to do."
As Violet quietly exited the office, Miley shot Marguerite an odd look. "Your assistant is that empathetic? Crying
over someone she's never even met?"
"What, you think everyone's as heartless as you?"
"Marguerite, don't you think Violet looks a bit like my mother-in-law?"
Marguerite laughed. "I noticed that right away, which is partly why I hired her. It's not just her looks; it's her
whole demeanor."
"And her mannerisms! When | walked in today, it didn't hitat first. But when I saw her crying, that look of
compassion and kindness... | was stunned! How does a young woman in her twenties look at someone with such
a kind gaze? For a moment, | thought my mother-in-law was standing right in front of me! Marguerite, do you
think my mother-in-law's spirit could be...? You know how in the South they talk about spirit mediums? They say
they drive out spirits attached to the living!"
Miley's theory grew more fanciful, prompting Marguerite to frown. "Quit with the spooky talk. You better go, I've
got work to do."
Miley clammed up, having wanted to linger, but then she saw Frederick walking down the hall with Chuck. She
gave a mischievous grin and quickly made her exit.
Frederick, upon seeing Violet at her desk outside the glass office, paused before striding in to sit next to
Marguerite.
"Who's the woman outside?"
Marguerite looked up. "The new assistant | mentioned before. What do you think, pretty, isn't she?"

Frederick glanced at her then turned to his laptop, plugging in a USB drive, uninterested. "Doesn't matter to me."
Marguerite chuckled. "Asking if you're not interested?"
The man didn't respond, focusing intently on his work.
Without Penelope's recordings, Marguerite found it hard to concentrate on work, especially with Frederick there.
She found herself glancing over at him uncontrollably, tapping on her computer then daydreaming, utterly
unable to focus on her tasks.
Unable to help herself, Marguerite sneaked a peek at his screen, finding him buried in Thunderbolt Enterprises’
affairs, his dedicated focus undeniably captivating.
"You know... if you're this busy, you didn't have to cto the office." Marguerite didn't want to disturb him, but
she was itching for a conversation. Frederick didn't look up, his voice cool and succinct. "I needed to be here."
"For what?" Marguerite blinked.
Frederick paused, turning to Marguerite, momentarily lost for words.
Seeing an opportunity to nudge things along, Chuck leaned in, whispering to Marguerite, "You."
