Joycelyn hesitated, unsure how to respond to the obvious mismatch in their wavelengths.
She could sense his frustration, yet he didn't seem in a rush to leave. Instead, he took out his phone and began typing She glanced up at him. The bright light fell on his chiseled face, accentuating his sharp features. His cold, penetrating gaze beneath those sword-like brows seemed to hide a profound depth, one that made him hard to read.
The two of them just stood there, with Joycelyn feeling increasingly uneasy.
Her bare feet shuffled nervously against the floor like a child caught doing something wrong, Out of sheer boredom, she stretched her neck, trying to sneak a peek at his phone screen.
She couldn't quite make out the contact nbut saw the message he had sent. [Who told you to buy this watch for me!] The few words, combined with the exclamation mark, carried an air of authority that made Joycelyn freeze. Ellison glanced at her, having noticed her attempt at eavesdropping.
Realizing she'd been caught, Joycelyn quickly changed the topic, pointing to the watch on the table.
"Do you like this watch? Want to try it on?" she asked, offering it up casually.
Ellison immediately extended his left hand toward her.

His veins were visible against his skin-long, lean, and strong, making it hard not to be tempted to touch it.
But she resisted, clutching her pants to keep herself from doing something impulsive.
Ellison continued typing on his phone, barely acknowledging her.
After a long pause, noticing her still hadn't moved, he turned to her and, in a low, commanding tone, said, "Put it on me." "Ah? Oh." Joycelyn felt silly, a bit slow to react. She took the watch and slowly unwrapped it from its plastic packaging.
It was a 90 thousand dollars watch.
It was her first ttouching something that expensive.
She carefully slid it onto his wrist, making sure it was properly adjusted.
As she clasped the strap, her fingers brushed lightly against his skin.
Though it was just a small contact, her face flushed slightly.
Ellison glanced at her from the corner of his eye, observing her every movement.
Neither of them spoke, but the air between them felt charged, almost as if it were simmering with unspoken tension.

I'm not that materialistic, Ellison replied, eyeing the watch in his hand. "The cake you ordered is downstairs." "Didn't your birthday already pass?" Joycelyn asked. Since she had learned that Ellison didn't like celebrating his birthday, she hadn't dared to bring up cake or gifts.
"Well, I thought we could have one," he said, surprising her.
"Alright, I'll go set it up. Wait ten minutes before coming down," Joycelyn said quickly, grabbing her phone and rushing out of the room.
Ellison followed her out, but instead of going downstairs, he went into his own room.
Tossing the watch onto a dresser, he made a quick call to William. "Check if Carmelo bought a Rolex at the commercial center last night at six. I'll send you a picture." After ending the call, Ellison looked at the watch again. He raised his wrist, watching the timepiece that Joycelyn had personally put on him.

Joycelyn rushed downstairs with the cake and a bouquet of flowers. She placed them on the coffee table and began arranging them on the carpet.
She trimmed the roses and set up a cute little arrangement. The cake was small-a one-pound chocolate ice cream cake shaped like "The Little Prince."
She even ordered edible roses to make sure they were perfect for decoration, carefully cleaning and prepping them. Okay, cdown," Joycelyn called out, turning off the chandelier and dimming the lights to set a cozy atmosphere. Ellison heard the sounds and descended the stairs slowly.
As he entered the living room, he saw Joycelyn sitting on the carpet, m smiling at him in the soft yellow light. Her smile was bright and genuine, lighting up the room. "Happy birthday! Cblow out the candles and make a wish," she called out, waving at him.
Ellison sat on the sofa, his eyes warm with affection. "Alright," he said, as he closed his eyes.
Joycelyn stood beside him, softly singing the birthday song. Her gentle voice made his heart soften. Before she could finish, Ellison opened his eyes and blew out the candles.
"Wow, let's cut the cake. We can each have half," Joycelyn said eagerly, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Ellison handed her the knife, and she divided the cake into two pieces.

"Alright, no pretending. Let's just eat. You take that half, I'll take this one," she said, picking up a spoon. At first, she planned to eat it herself, but seeing Ellison's gaze fixed on her, she automatically held out the spoon to him, saying, "You can have the first bite.” Though she was tempted to eat it herself, Joycelyn controlled her urge, licking her lips instead, her eyes sparkling with innocence.
Ellison, however, wasn't looking at the cake.
His eyes were locked on her lips as they parted, his throat tightening as he watched the way she licked her lips, the slight movement of her Adam's apple.
