Chapter140I've Decided, No Divorce He intentionally intended to squeeze into this tiny hospital bed with her! Standing at six-foot-two, he couldn't fully stretch his legs in the cramped space.
"Kelvin, get up!" Penelope nudged his shoulder. "Who says I want to share a bed with you?" His eyes remained closed, a picture of ease. "Would you rather havesleep on the floor?" "Go back to your home!" "It's not hwithout you." Penelope was at a loss for words.
The narrow hospital bed barely fit one adult, let alone two, making even turning over a challenge.
She had no choice but to lean against Kelvin's chest.
As if that wasn't bad enough, any slight movement made the bed creak embarrassingly loud, clearly not built for the weight of two.
"Sleep on the couch!" Penelope pointed, her patience wearing thin. "Or I will." Otherwise, she wouldn't get any sleep tonight.
As she tried to get up, Kelvin's hand pressed gently against her stomach. "Stop fussing and sleep." "I'll take the couch! Mr. Davis, Your Highness, the bed is all yours!" Yet, Kelvin didn't budge, effectively pinning Penelope down. He found the situation amusing, a smirk playing on his lips. Penelope, frustrated, punched his chest and turned her back on him.
Kelvin wrapped his arms around her from behind. "Goodnight." Two people squeezed together on the small bed.

Before... she knew Kelvin despised and tormented her; she knew how to endure, how to persevere. But now, with Kelvin's sudden affection, professing he liked her... Penelope was bewildered. Hating someone was easy; loving them was hard.
It wasn't until the wee hours that she finally succumbed to sleep. Half-awake, she felt Kelvin get up, perhaps even felt a kiss on her forehead, but she was too exhausted to open her eyes.
When Penelope awoke, it was already ten in the morning.
As the doctor made his rounds, she inquired, "When can I be discharged?" "Um... I need to ask Mr. Davis," was the doctor's response.
"Are you a doctor or not? Why ask him?" The doctor replied, "Mr. Davis requested that we ensure your health is at its best, particularly for... trying to conceive. Mrs. Davis, you've recovered, but regaining full strength takes time. We shouldn't rush it." Penelope fell silent.
'Trying to conceive? Having a child with Kelvin?' The thought was as absurd as it was laughable.
Penelope clenched her palm anxiously.
Gazing out at the clear blue skies, she requested, "Get the car ready, please. I want to visit my mother." The servant nodded, but only after seeking Kelvin's approval did they dare to begin preparations. Penelope applied her makeup meticulously, aiming to make a favorable impression on her mother. The sanitarium provided a much more serene atmosphere compared to a typical hospital.
Upon entering the room, Penelope found Mrs. Cooper still deep in slumber, her frnoticeably frailer.
It must have been a mother's intuition because Mrs. Cooper's eyes fluttered, and suddenly she awoke. "Penelope..." "Mom, I'm here." Mrs. Cooper's gaze met hers, "Am I dreaming, or... are you really here?" "I'm really here, Mom." Penelope held her hand, "I cto see how you were. I've missed you so much." Only in her mother's presence could she reveal a daughter's vulnerability and be herself without needing to act tough.
"Penelope..." Tears streamed down Mrs. Cooper's cheeks.
"Mom, why are you crying? I'm alright, aren't I?" Mrs. Cooper summoned the strength to sit up, "You silly girl, always shelteringfrom your worries. How much have you had to endure on your own?" Penelope bit her lip, "Mom, everything's going to be okay." After Fiona's visit and her revelations, both mother and daughter had an unspoken understanding.
But neither brought it up. What good would it do? Cry in each other's arms? "I know you're trying to cheerup, but..." But how could Kelvin ever be kind to her? Kelvin had destroyed the most vital aspects of a young woman's life: her virtue and her marriage.
"Mom, let's not talk about that. I can handle it. Don't worry," Penelope assured her, "Just focus on getting better for the day you see Dad again." "Your father and I have becburdens to you." "That's not true... As long as you're here, I'll always be your little girl, able to be spoiled by you." Mrs. Cooper hesitated for a few seconds before asking, "Fiona... what she said..." "Don't mind her, don't believe a word." Penelope interjected, "Mom, you have to trust me." Fiona's words would only agitate Mrs. Cooper! Mrs. Cooper's energy faded, and she soon grew drowsy during their conversation, her focus drifting away.
After coaxing her mother to sleep, Penelope gripped her phone tightly and stepped out of the room.
Standing at the end of the hallway, she dialed Kelvin's number.
"Hello?" He picked up promptly, "What's up?"

"I know," Kelvin said with an air of certainty about her whereabouts. "When are you going to allow then hospital to give my mother the medication?" Penelope asked, her voice tinged with desperation. "Her condition is worsening; we can't delay any longer."
The medication's cost was astronomical, and only with Kelvin's approval would the hospital consent to administer it. Despite Penelope's attempt to pay with the money she'd borrowed from Nathan, the hospital promptly returned the funds. "You know what you need to do forto agree to save her," Kelvin's voice was indifferent.
"Kelvin, this is between your father and mine. The death of our child is our conflict.
From beginning to end, my mother has been nothing but an innocent victim! Can't you just let her be?" Penelope pleaded.
"Her fate is in your hands, not mine," he responded coldly.
Penelope clenched her teeth then yelled, "All you do is threaten me!" "I'm offering you a chance," Kelvin replied, "Most people... aren't even worthy of my threats." He wanted her to yield, to comply, to be obedient.
"Think it over and callwhen you're ready," Kelvin added. "I'll be waiting." And with that, he hung up.
Penelope gripped her phone, staring out the window whilst taking deep breaths to calm herself. Minutes later, she dialed his number again.
"Have you decided?" Kelvin's voice was casual.
"Yes." "Decided what?" "I won't divorce. I'll stay by your side," Penelope conceded.
"That's my girl," Kelvin's tone softened. "See? It was easy, after all." "The medication, my mother needs it today." "No problem," he assured her.
Kelvin's word was law. At his command, things got done instantly.
