Chapter 159 | Shouldn't Have Replaced Penelope "Did you?" Kelvin pressed, "After that night, during these days we've spent together, did your heart ever beat for me?" She said nothing.

"If you don't answer, I'll take it as a yes. That you loved me," Kelvin claimed, obstinate in his ways.

Penelope tugged at the corner of her mouth, forcing a smile uglier than tears. "What does it matter if we love each other? Even if you loveand I love you, can we be together?" "I want to know your answer," he pressed.

All it would take was for her to say she loved him, and he'd move heaven and earth for her! Kelvin's gaze looked onto her. "You had feelings for me, Penelope. I don't believe your heart is made of stone, so unyielding. You protect the child so fiercely because of the feelings you developed that night, right?" "No!" Penelope fervently denied.

"Yes!" Kelvin declared, "You never said it, but I could tell. You've been waiting for the man from that night to appear, to take you away, to give you hope! Now, I am that man from that night!" Penelope replied, deliberate with every word, "The man I love was the one who was incredibly tender tothat night. The one who whispered promises of marriage in my ear. A responsible gentleman, not the terrifying and selfish Kelvin standing beforenow!" His already battered heart felt the sting of her words once more.

"I hate you, Kelvin. I've said it more than once that I hate you. How could you think I love you?" Penelope scoffed, "It's ridiculous! Who could love an enemy? Someone who has ruined their entire life?" Saying these words hurt Penelope, too. But she wanted him to hurt more, ten times more than she did. To harm herself a little was to make him suffer greatly.

Penelope turned on her heel and disappeared into the stairwell.

She bit her lower lip hard enough to draw blood, holding back the sobs.

Why... why was it Kelvin that night... Fate can be so cruel. The person she had longed for was Kelvin. The person she despised was also the sman.

How could there be such a contradictory person in her life? In the living room, Kelvin stood alone beneath the chandelier, desolate. The one he should have loved was Penelope. He had been mistaken all along.

Yet, even without knowing she was the woman from that night, he had already fallen deeply in love with her. Perhaps that is destiny. Now, his love for her was even deeper, even more steadfast! Kelvin knew he had done many wrong things, he had wronged Penelope... but the one thing he hadn't done wrong was to marry her. How glad he was that he had married her! If only it weren't for that child...

Kelvin slowly raised his hands, looking at his palms. By his hand, he had killed his only child.

Was there anything more regrettable? Suddenly, Kelvin bent over, a mouthful of blood spewing out heavily, scattering bright red droplets on the carpet. The stress was too much. He was truly suffering...

The butler entered at that moment, shocked at the scene: "Mr. Davis!" Kelvin waved him off, wiping the corner of his mouth as if nothing had happened.

"Do you need a doctor? Should we go to the hospital?" the butler asked, frantically.

"No need. Have someone clean this up," Kelvin said sternly. "How is Fiona?" "Lying there, silent," the butler replied.

He walked out of The King Manor. Fiona was still breathing on the steps.

With every step Kelvin took towards her, his hatred for himself grew as did his hatred for Fiona! This woman had destroyed everything! Planning your weekend reading? Fiona slowly lifted her head, "Please... I know I was wrong..." "Can't take it anymore?" Kelvin scoffed.

"I was wrong, I shouldn't have... shouldn't have taken Penelope's place, deceived you, kept it from you..." Fiona said, acting remorsefully.

Kelvin's eyes were filled with a cold fury, "Fiona, this is just the beginning!" There was more torture waiting for her. He wanted Fiona to beg for death! "I... I was delusional," Fiona said weakly, "I was blinded for a moment, so I took Penelope's place, I was wrong... Mr. Davis, please have mercy, spare me!" "Is that all you did, just taking Penelope's place?" Kelvin asked, his voice was icy.

Fiona shuddered all over, too afraid to speak.

Looking at this woman, Kelvin truly wished he could flay her skin, extract her flesh, and throw her to the wolves in the back hills! "Fiona, even if you died a million times, it would be what you deserve!" Kelvin said fiercely, "You knew it was Penelope that night, and you certainly knew the child in her womb was mine! Yet, what did you do?" Penelope was openly taken from the company and beaten up in an alley. Back then, Fiona had one goal, it was to get rid of the child! Later, the hospital director faked an illness and demanded a blood donation from Penelope, sneakily hoping to cause a miscarriage.

And then, Fiona's false pregnancy and pretended miscarriage, all to try and induce a real miscarriage in Penelope.

Fiona had done so much, always targeting the unborn child! "Mr. Davis, I... I may have done many wrong things, but the child didn't die," Fiona argued desperately, "In the end, it was you who..." "Shut up!" Kelvin roared. That was a pain Kelvin would always carry in his heart.

Fiona made a final plea, "Mr. Davis, I may not have credit, but I've worked hard, trailing you these days, thinking only of your interests. Letgo, I'll leave LA, and I won't bother you any longer!" "Wishful thinking," Kelvin responded coldly, "Since you're so desperate for a man's attention, I can accommodate you!"

Fiona's mouth dropped open in shock, realizing the humiliation that that awaited her. "Enjoy this gwith NO ν' your father,” said Kelvin with a bloodthirsty smile, "Take her away! She's yours now!" "Yes, Mr. Davis," the bodyguard complied.

"No, help-" Fiona's screams echoed through the night sky.

Kelvin stood still on the ground where his feet was surrounded by a pool of blood. His silhouette was as haughty and isolated as ever.

Cruel and bloodthirsty.

He had cut the tendons in the director's hands and feet and tossed him into an asylum to let the patients there take their twisted revenge.

He had beaten Fiona until she was a bloody mess and handed her over to other men for their pleasure.

It was clear how ruthless his heart was.

From the balcony on the second floor, Penelope quietly watched it all. She had experienced the harshness of Kelvin's methods firsthand and it was far from pleasant.

The only reason she was unharmed back then was that Kelvin initially wanted to toy with her bit by bit, td destroy her slowly. Later, she married him; he needed a stand-in Mrs. Davis, so he had not entirely destroyed her spirit. Now, he claimed he loved her. The love of a devil, how real and deep could it possibly be? Penelope thought, that if Kelvin could be this merciless with Fiona today, there was no telling whether he might do the sto her tomorrow.
