Chapter 163 Penelope Goes Missing "Don't look atlike that. I'm stating the facts," Penelope responded. "Kelvin, I am a person, a living, breathing, free individual. You can't control everything I do!" Was he so possessive that he needed to oversee whom she spoke to? Who does he think he was, a master of an estate by the Pacific? So ridiculously overbearing! "I just care..." Kelvin softened his tone, "Seeing you so friendly with others makesjealous, incredibly jealous." He wanted to be more open, but he just couldn't. Kelvin was accustomed to getting whatever he wanted, be it the wind or the rain. Anything he desired, he had to possess. Others dared not even glance at the woman he loved without repercussions! "I'm just socializing normally, I don't like him!" Penelope protested. "Please stop being irrationally jealous!" Kelvin asked, "Then who do you like?" Suddenly, the air becstill.
"Do you like me, Penelope?" Kelvin pressed, "Have you ever felt a flutter in your heart for me? Even just a little?" Penelope turned her head away, avoiding his gaze.
"If you don't answer, I'm taking it as a yes," Kelvin stated.
The moment he said that she responded quickly, "I don't like you." "I don't believe you," he remarked.
"Believe it or not," Penelope said, "how much longer do you plan to stick around?" Kelvin hugged her tightly, his chin resting on her shoulder. "I know you hate me, and it's hard for you to forgiveright now... Penelope, I can hardly forgive myself." He'd been up all night, standing by his study window, smoking one cigarette after another. He thought about everything, every detail of that night, about the child. If the child had been with them, Kelvin was sure he and Penelope would still have a future.
Unfortunately... sigh. Maybe they could try for another, but how could one be so certain? Before, Kelvin could have forced her just to satisfy himself, but now he couldn't bear it.
"Letgo," Penelope said, "I'm leaving." He stepped back twice.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtPenelope walked briskly towards the door, not looking back. As she opened the door, she saw a "Maintenance in Progress" sign.
So that was Kelvin's trick to keep people out...
She removed the sign and walked out, her colleagues approaching in the hallway. Their shocked glances were directed not at her but behind her. Penelope didn't need to look back to know what was happening... Kelvin had just cout of the women's restroom.
But what did it matter? He was the one without shame. She had done nothing wrong; it wasn't her in the men's restroom! She quickened her pace to leave.
Kelvin walked out nonchalantly, straightening his suit sleeve, "Did you see something?" The employees shook their heads in unison, "We didn't see anything." Satisfied, he left. Back in the jewelry department, Penelope sat at her workstation, her face burning with heat.
Damn it. Why should she feel embarrassed? It wasn't her fault. She felt the strange stares of her colleagues burning into her. Unable to stand it, she excused herself to the break room for sair.
Her phone suddenly rang with an unfamiliar, foreign number. The first person that cto mind was Nathan. "Hello?" Penelope moved to a corner to answer the call.
"It's me," Nathan's voice cthrough, "Penelope, did you receive the emails I sent you?" That was a sore spot for Penelope.

"Yeah, I got them and deleted them after reading," Penelope replied, "How's everything with you abroad?" "Things are looking good, and if all goes according to plan, I should be back in the States next month," Nathan informed.
"Really?" Penelope asked, a hint of excitement laced in her voice.
"Yeah, Anthony's heading back, so I'll be coming with him," Nathan replied.
That explained it. Penelope gripped her phone tightly. "He doesn't suspect anything, does he?" "No, we get along great. He's not on his guard with me," Nathan said, "Besides, he's just a playboy who's clueless about real business, nothing like Kelvin's caliber." "Just be safe. I'll be waiting for your return," Penelope advised.
"Penelope, I know it's not the right tto ask, but I need to know," Nathan said, "When the truth finally comes out, will you leave Kelvin for good?" "...Yes," Her response was immediate and without hesitation.
Nathan fell silent. After a long pause, he finally said, "Let's uncover the truth first. Wait for me." Penelope hung up the phone.

At the end of the workday, Penelope deliberately lingered for half an hour before leaving the office.
And yet, sure enough, Kelvin was waiting in his Ferrari. How tiresome! She rolled her eyes at him and headed for the bus stop. He followed her in his car.
It was the sold morning routine.
The bus lurched and stopped, passengers got on and off... Watching this scene unfold, Penelope suddenly had a plan to shake off Kelvin.
Did she have to return to The King Manor? She could call Minnie and go shopping instead! She refused to be under Kelvin's watchful eye with every move she made. The bus reached the stop.
Penelope, blending in with the crowd, lowered her head and slipped out in the confusion, quickly disappearing into the throng.
It was the rush hour, and with people bustling everywhere, and Kelvin stuck in his car, his view was obstructed. He didn't notice her leave.
Penelope hid behind sgreenery, watching the ostentatious red Ferrari follow the bus slowly away... She let out a deep sigh of relief. She'd successfully given him the slip! "Does Kelvin honestly think I have no way to deal with his stalking?" she muttered to herself. "Let him follow." By the the reached The King Manor stop and didn't see her get off, he would realize she'd already escaped. Penelope could almost picture the look on Kelvin's face.
It would be priceless!
But for now, she was in high spirits. Penelope pulled out her phone, ready to text Monica to meet up at the mall. NO As she was composing the message, her world suddenly went dark. Her phone clattered to the ground.
A sack was thrown over her head, and before she could even scream, she was struck hard on the back of her neck She lost consciousness entirely. Her abductor acted swiftly, dragging her into an alley and tossing her into a van that sped away.
The city bus approached a stop near The King Manor. Kelvin pressed on the brakes, his eyes fixed on the fear door of the bus, anticipating that familiar figure. But... even as the bus pulled away, Penelope hadn't gotten off. What was going on? Where was she?
