Chapter 203 Dr. Harry "Dr. Cooper mentioned he needed to inject smedication with a complex nI couldn't understand," the butler continued.
"The nurse said the hospital was out of stock and we needed to borrow from another facility. Lily pushed Anthony to drive the nurse there, as it was a matter of his father's survival and urged him to show filial piety.
"Half an hour later, Anthony and the nurse returned with the medicine. Dr. Cooper administered the injection. Then, within less than five minutes, Mr. Davis Sr. started coughing blood incessantly, until... he passed away," the butler concluded his story. Penelope closed her eyes for a while.
"I see," she said. "Anthony must have tampered with the medicine!" "It's highly possible. But... it was Dr. Cooper who specified the shot, and Anthony just fetched it. So, naturally, the bland fault fell onto Dr. Cooper," the butler pointed out.
After listening, Penelope nodded vigorously, and said, "I understand. Thank you!" With the butler's clue, she was one step closer to the truth! By the tshe returned to the master bedroom, the sun was rising above the horizon. Dawn had broken. Penelope tiptoed to the bed, lay down, and pulled the covers over herself.
Her mind was full of the plan because she had entrusted it to Nathan.
She imagined her father, exonerated, stepping out of prison, a free man once again...
That day was drawing near.
Lacking any trace of sleepiness yet afraid to stir and wake Kelvin, she lay still.
By 9.00 a.m., Kelvin remained silent as stone.
'Why hadn't he woken up yet? Could it be the sleeping pill I'd slipped into his milk... maybe a tad too much? No, that couldn't be. I'd measured out a normal dose,' Penelope wondered.
"Kelvin, Kelvin?" Penelope nudged his chest. "Wake up, you're going to be late for work," she reminded him.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Oh, got it." His voice was thick with grogginess as he took her hand.
"You've been awake?" she asked as she gasped, clearly startled.
"No, just woke up I heard you call out for me," he replied.
Kelvin wrapped his arms around her, his chin resting on the crown of her head. "Tto get up, Penelope. It's nine," he reminded her.
"I called in sick today," Penelope claimed.
"What?" Kelvin said, worriedly.
"I'm taking you for a check-up," Kelvin replied as if it had been planned all along.
Penelope was taken aback; this was certainly a startling morning.
"I already said no," she protested. "You never listen!" "It's not the hospital, but a private clinic. Quiet, comfortable, and none of that hospital smell," Kelvin assured. Penelope persisted, "I refuse." As she spoke, Kelvin's phone began to ring. As he answered, Timothy's voice buzzed eagerly from the other end, saying, "Hey, where are you? This doctor's hard to get, and I only got him because we're old buddies. Kelvin, bring your better half-step on it!" Without any change in expression, Kelvin responded, "Okay, we're on our way." Penelope was speechless.
"That's Timothy pushing us," he explained, "so let's head out." "This appointment was Timothy's doing?" Penelope asked.
Kelvin nodded, and asked, "Yeah, can you do it as a favor, considering he's your boss?" Penelope realized that resisting the inevitable check-up would only make Kelvin more suspicious. Sooner or later, they'd end up at the clinic anyway.
I suggest getting this over with.
"Fine," Penelope agreed reluctantly. "Letget ready." She ducked swiftly into the bathroom, dialing Monica frantically.
"Monica, it's an emergency!" Penelope informed, frantically.
"What's up?" Monica demanded, her tone instantly becoming protective. "Did Kelvin give you trouble again? Spill it; I've got your back!" Monica promised.
"It's not that. He's takingfor a check-up." Penelope explained.
"And that's bad... how?" Monica asked.
Penelope bit her lip nervously, and revealed, "It's just that... I'm pregnant again." There was a stunned silence on the other end. After a long pause, Monica finally managed to speak, "What did you say? You're pregnant again?" Hadn't it been only a short while since her miscarriage? How could she possibly be pregnant so swiftly? It was almost inconceivably quick.
"It's true." Penelope replied, "I've had it checked, and I'm still on medication to sustain the pregnancy." Monica, still dazed, said, "Givea moment to process this..." "There's no time," Penelope cut in, and asked, "Timothy arranged the clinic appointment. Minnie, how well do you know the doctor there?" "Hold on, I'll find out for you!" Monica instructed.
"Great," Penelope replied and hung up, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
She had to keep this a secret from Kelvin! With a heart full of trepidation, Penelope drove to the upscale private clinic as Kelvin was tied up with company matters and seemed quite busy.
"Maybe..." Penelope ventured, "You can head on to the office, and I'll go through the checkup alone." "No way. I'm coming with you." Kelvin refused.
Seeing his insistence, Penelope didn't press further.
At the clinic, she met the doctor, tall, handsome, young, and nothing like she had pictured. He exuded a scholarly charm.
"Good morning, Mrs. Davis; I'm Dr. Harry. I'll be taking care of your checkup today," Dr. Harry greeted.
"Good morning, Dr. Harry," Penelope greeted back.

Dr. Harry smiled gently, and said firmly, "Even the closest of partners have their private matters."
Kelvin frowned in dissatisfaction, but Penelope quickly intervened, "Let's I follow the doctor's advice. I won't be running off, and you'll be right outside." Kelvin reluctantly agreed.
Inside the examination room, Dr. Harry removed his mask, and informed, "Mrs. Davis, rest assured, Monica has already filledin." "I figured as much the moment you asked Kelvin to wait outside," Penelope assured.
Dr. Harry nodded, and assured, "You can trustcompletely." Penelope had full confidence in Monica's arrangements.
But she was curious...
"Weren't you a friend of Timothy's?" Penelope inquired, "And you're close with Minnie too?"
"Minnie and I went to elementary, middle, and high school together It om wasn't until college, when she went for design, and I chose clinical medicine that we went our separate ways," he explained. Penelope replied, "I see." Minnie always cthrough at crucial times! Penelope glanced back to ensure the door was closed, then whispered, "Dr. Harry, to be frank, I'm pregnant." Dr. Harry nodded calmly, and replied, "Understood." The whole checkup went smoothly, with the nurses being gentle and friendly.
There were two sets of results.
One was for Kelvin to see.
Only Penelope could see the item.
"Mrs. Davis could use a health boost," Dr. Harry remarked, "A diet rich in iron and vitamins could help, perhaps for a month. Plus, you should increase your calcium intake, but other than that, she's doing well."
