Chapter 738 He Had Done So Much Behind Her Back Upon hearing these words, Lynn quirked an eyebrow and said, "Dr. Thorne, there's no need to hide anything from me. Given your medical skills, you could easily find work in a foreign hospital. This tyou've returned, everyone is more than happy to welcyou back. No one is going to talk behind your back." The conversation seemed to veer off into a direction that Lysander found incomprehensible.
"I was thinking of returning to our department to work, but isn't there a procedure to follow? Has the recruitment schedule changed this year?" Lysander asked, a look of confusion on her face.
Seeing her seemingly clueless expression, Lynn ceased her laughter and spoke seriously. "But Dr. Ziegler already announced it to everyone in the last meeting, didn't he? The department head knew about it too. Everyone knew you were coming back. Did you really think you could keep it from me?" The news had spread throughout the entire hospital, yet Lysander, the person directly involved, remained unaware.
A hint of speculation surfaced in Lysander's heart, but it wasn't a sure thing, so it wasn't appropriate to show it in front of Lynn. She vaguely replied, "I didn't mean to hide it from you, it's just... the exact thasn't been set, so it's not good to say anything right now." This reason was incredibly far-fetched.
With a face full of worry, Lynn looked at her and asked, "Why is it still uncertain? Are you still planning to go abroad?" "No, not at all," Lysander hastily shook her head, holding the paper cup filled with hot water. "I just... didn't expect things to go so smoothly. You should get back to work. I saw a patient's family member heading that way earlier, they might be looking for you." Upon learning that a patient was looking for her, Lynn had no tto continue the conversation. She hurriedly turned and headed toward her office.
Lysander returned to the burn department in a distracted state, expecting to see Josiah in the waiting area. However, he was nowhere to be found. She naturally assumed that he must have gone in for a bandage change. Yet, after waiting for a while, when the consultation room door finally opened, the person who emerged was not him.
As noon approached, the morning's patients had all been attended to. The doctor began tidying up the medical records, but showed no signs of leaving just yet. It seemed as though he was waiting for someone.
Lysander wasn't exactly close with him, but it was safe to say they knew each other. In the past, whenever they met in the hospital, they would always greet each other. She approached and knocked on the door, asking, "Has Josiah already left?" The doctor shook his head in surprise. "Mr. Guerra suddenly had surgent matters to attend to. He said to let other patients go first. Didn't he go to find you?" The speed at which gossip spread in the hospital was no slower than anywhere else.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhen Lysander initially divorced her good-for-nothing ex-husband and subsequently moved to Stounia alone to further her studies, the news had once caused quite a stir. However, it now seemed that the situation wasn't quite as the rumors suggested.
These two people were quite fond of each other.
The doctor noticed Lysander deep in thought and, as if just remembering, congratulated her. "Dr. Thorne, you must have gained a lot from this support mission, right? Once all the formalities are completed, remember to share with us. Dr. Ziegler mentioned that you are expected to give a report upon your return." He exchanged a few pleasantries with Lysander, all the while wearing a smile.
It seemed that the news of her returning to work had indeed beccommon knowledge throughout the entire institution.
Lysander was truly at a loss for words. She thought to herself that it was unlikely for Josiah, a grown man, to get lost in Central Hospital. Perhaps he had just gone to the restroom.
The accessible restroom had always been well maintained, so there was really nothing to worry about. The most pressing matter at hand was to quickly figure out exactly what had happened.
Lysander headed straight for the Fred's office. Back when she hadn't yet resigned, he had taken good care of her due to her talent. When she wanted to take a temporary leave, it was Fred who had helped her get involved in volunteer activities.
When in doubt, the best option would be to go directly to the person involved.
Just as Lysander was halfway through raising her hand to knock on the door, a voice from inside halted her movement.
Fred was engaged in a conversation with Josiah.
His voice was deep yet steady.
"Rest assured, the equipment and reagents for the lab I promised will be delivered soon. However, I must ask for your continued assistance with Lysander. For now, please refrain from telling her about this. Once she shows any related intentions, I will promptly inform you." Fred's expression turned slightly awkward. "Mr. Guerra, actually, during our last meeting, I had already announced this good news to everyone. However, if you don't wish for Dr. Thorne to find out, I can remind everyone again to keep it under wraps." The difficulty was indeed a bit too high.
Josiah hadn't expected Fred's actions to be so swift. Now, it was too late to fix things. After a moment of contemplation, he could only agree.
Upon seeing the situation, Fred, in turn, offered him a few words of comfort.
"As long as Lysander is willing to return, I'm definitely eager to welcher back. Plus, her recent trip to assist the remote area's medical needs was through the hospital's initiative. To outsiders, she has always been a doctor at our hospital, pretty much like being on paid leave. It shouldn't have any impact. However, Mr. Guerra, your current condition doesn't seem too good, especially the burns. They need careful treatment to heal properly, otherwise, they might leave scars. Can Lysander really return to work with peace of mind? The Obstetrics and Gynecology department is one of the busiest in our hospital." Positioned in the hallway, Lysander heard this and completely let her hand, which she had been preparing to knock with, drop to her side.
The concern Fred raised was exactly what she was worried about.
During this period, her twas
consumed by caring for Josiah and keeping up with the latest research findings in the medical field, om particularly those related to obstetrics and gynecology. She also spent tbrushing up on her old skills, even practicing sutures using fish fillets. Now, she was informed that she would soon return to the department she longed for day and night. Naturally, this was a piece of news she eagerly welcomed. Yet, she couldn't ignore the fact that Josiah had been injured in the process of saving her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmMaverick had once painstakingly taught his two daughters about the importance of gratitude and reciprocation in life.
But now...
The words of Josiah cthrough once again. "She is capable, as for me.... I won't hold her back. Being a doctor, healing the sick and saving lives is her dream. If I were to confine her to the house because of this minor injury of mine, it would be incredibly selfish."
He had a conversation with the director about sunrelated matters, which seemed to be related to the subsequent arrangements However Lysander couldn't catch every word. The echo of Josiah's words from earlier kept resounding in her ears, making her feel distracted the whole way. It wasn't until she sat back down outside the burn department that she regained her senses. Lysander never expected that Josiah had done so much behind her back.
From her aspiration of curing the sick and saving lives to her longing and care for those around her, his understanding of her had unknowingly deepened to a point where even she found it astonishing.
Lysander had been sitting at the door until Josiah returned.
From a distance, Josiah caught sight of her figure, almost unconsciously releasing the forward button. He had assumed that she hadn't seen Lynn for a while and would surely engage in a long conversation. That was why he dared to linger so long in Fred's office.
In hindsight, it appeared he had made a mistake.
Sensing that Josiah didn't want her to find out just yet, she played along, feigning ignorance and asked, "Where have you been? The doctor is about to end his shift soon."
