Chapter 987: The Treatment Standing outside the door, Tina spoke calmly, "How's your health?" This place was not far from the lab and was one of her properties. Bringing Kevin here served two purposes. First, to better understand and neutralize the toxins in his body. Second, to keep him hidden from Orion Woodwind. If Orion discovered Kevin was nearby, he wouldn't hesitate for even a second to use forbidden techniques to take Kevin's life.
Kevin lowered his head and gave a bitter smile. "Miss Reed, you know my condition well. Treatment doesn't mean much to me. It would only waste your time." Tina frowned. She had no patience for patients who gave up on themselves before she even tried.
Without a word, she walked to the desk, pulled out her silver needle kit, and placed it down without opening it. "I'm a doctor. Whether I can cure you or not is my concern, not yours. I'm in a hurry, so I'll give you one minute to decide." "Of course," she continued, "I can't guarantee a complete cure. All I can do for now is keep you alive." She fell silent after that, gazing at Kevin, who stood backlit by the doorway. Her calm yet commanding presence was undeniable, and Kevin felt the weight of it. A person's eyes never lie, and Kevin could see that Tina was genuinely trying to help him.
Thinking of Poppy waiting outside for him, Kevin realized he had been too pessimistic. He couldn't afford to give in to despair any longer.
Ten seconds passed before Kevin gave his answer. "Miss Reed, I'll accept your treatment." Tina nodded. "Chere." After checking his pulse, Tina instructed Kevin to remove his shirt. She needed to use silver needles to seal the acupuncture points near his heart to prevent the toxins from invading it during an attack, which could otherwise cause sudden death.
As a doctor, Tina didn't see the act of removing his shirt as anything unusual. However, Kevin's torso was covered in scars, which made her frown slightly-not out of disgust, but because the scars would interfere with her needlework and slow her down.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtKevin misinterpreted her reaction and asked softly, "Did I scare you?" Tina's face remained expressionless as she turned to retrieve the needles. "I don't like being interrupted while I'm working." Kevin glanced at her in surprise but said nothing more.
The process of sealing the acupuncture points required patience. Tina stood up and went to wash her hands, noticing a few books on the windowsill. She casually flipped through a couple. Twenty minutes later, she removed the needles. Kevin's face was as pale as paper, and his body was drenched in cold sweat.
Tina gave him a few instructions for aftercare, packed up her tools, and left without lingering for a second. She needed to reach Hugo's house by noon. Since Uncle wasn't htoday to cook for her, she was craving Jennie's cooking instead.
As Tina hurried to leave, Kevin clutched his chest and called out, "Miss Reed, wait a moment." Tina stopped and turned to look at him. "Anything else?" Kevin struggled to speak. "I just want to know... how is Poppy doing now?" Tina gave him a calm glance and replied, "He's with the Pace family. If you're worried about him being uncared for if something happens to you, rest assured. The Pace family will take care of him. Besides, my parents adore Poppy." Kevin looked up at Tina, whose expression had remained unchanged since she entered the room. Taking a deep breath, he sincerely thanked her. "Thank you." "You should thank yourself, not me," Tina replied. "In the end, the outcof a person's life often depends on their own choices. If you hadn't changed your mind and ctoback then, the Swanson family would indeed be in ruins now, just as you feared-including everyone in it." Kevin's eyes flickered. "The Swanson family now..." Tina knew what he was asking. The Swanson family was down to just Jon and Kaleigh. "One is drowning in debt and driven mad by money. The other has lost their mind completely. There's nothing left of the Swanson family." Hearing their fates, Kevin closed his eyes. He had seen it coming.
When he opened them again, Tina was already at the doorway, about to leave.
"Miss Reed!" He still had something to tell her.
Tina frowned, this tvisibly annoyed. Few men, aside from Hayden, could irritate her this much without her being able to do anything about it.
She turned and walked back to the bed, staring down at Kevin. "I'll give you one last minute. Say everything you need to say at once." It was the first tKevin had seen her show emotion. Startled, he quickly gathered his thoughts and told her everything he knew.
"I wanted to say that the reason Claudia spared my grandfather's life wasn't out of kindness. He must have had something important, something that saved him." Tina's eyes sharpened. "What is it?" Kevin shook his head. "I don't know. Their conversations were always kept secret. But I suspect it's still with the Swanson family. Otherwise, Jon wouldn't have gone crazy trying to stopthat day..." Tina narrowed her eyes but didn't press further. "I see." This time, she didn't wait for Kevin to say anything else. She turned and left immediately.
As he watched her retreating figure, Kevin lowered his head and smiled faintly, hoping what he had shared would help her.
Leaving the facility, Tina called Jayden and instructed him to set up a covert operation to monitor the Swanson family. If there was something Claudia was after, she would eventually make a move. Tina didn't care what the item was-her real target was Claudia herself.
By the tTina's car arrived at the Reed family home, it was already 1 p. m. She had called Jennie earlier, asking her not to wait but to save sfood for her.
When she knocked on the door, Jennie quickly opened it. "Tina, you're here." Tina nodded. "Jennie, I got delayed with something earlier." Jennie waved her hands dismissively. "You're not late. As long as you're here, that's all that matters. Cin, I've saved sfood for you."
Entering the house, Tina glanced around and saw no strangers. She asked Jennie about it. Jennie pointed e toward the guest room. "One of the kids wasn't feeling well, so I let them rest in the room. You can check on them after you eat. No rush." Jennie brought out the reheated dishes from the kitchen, laying them out in front of Tina. They were all her favorite foods.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmNoticing that they were barely touched, Tina handed Jennie a pair of chopsticks. "Jennie, it's no fun eating alone. Join me." Jennie was momentarily stunned, realizing Tina was showing her care. Smiling, she took the chopsticks and served them each a bowl of steaming noodles.
As they ate, Jennie mentioned that Hugo's arm injury had healed and that he'd already gone to work early. Zackary was doing fine at school with his classmates' support.
Halfway through the meal, a muffled sound of a child crying cfrom inside the house. The sgbs were soft and restrained, as if the child was biting down on something to stifle the sound. Tina looked at Jennie and could guess who it was from her expression.
Jennie's face changed slightly. She stood up and said, "It's my niece from my younger sister's family. She must be having another episode. You keep eating; I'll go check on her." Tina put down her chopsticks and stood up as well. "I'll cwith you. I can take a look at her condition." Jennie hesitated for a moment before nodding.
The guest room door wasn't locked. Jennie knocked twice before pushing it open.
The room was dim, with only a faint light filtering through.
Tina raised her eyes, searching for the child. Suddenly, she met a pair of gray, misty eyes staring straight at her.
The light in them flickered briefly before disappearing.
