Chapter 989: Do You Suspect This Person is Claudia? Tina stepped into the elevator, glancing at the yellow-glowing jade pendant in her hand. She casually slipped it into her pocket. It held little value to her, but it might mean a great deal to Jennie and her family.
When Tina reached the ground floor, she bumped into Hugo, who had just returned. Spotting her, Hugo walked over quickly, waving enthusiastically. "Tina!" Tina smiled warmly. "Hugo, you're back so early." Hugo set his briefcase down. "Jennie calledat noon and toldyou cby. Since there wasn't much going on at the office, I decided to leave early." Tina knew Hugo cared deeply for her, but every tshe felt it so clearly, her heart warmed a little more.
"Hugo, how's the company doing?" "I was just about to tell you," Hugo replied, his excitement apparent. "The company plans to release a new product before the end of the year. We'll market it alongside our classic line, which should help us break into the local market faster. What do you think?" Once the topic of the company cup, Hugo seemed unstoppable.
He frequently discussed these matters with Jennie, but since Tina was the company's investor, her perspective was sharper and more strategic. For key decisions like this, he always sought her approval.
Tina smiled gently. "Go ahead with it. You're more than capable of making these decisions, Hugo." Hugo let out a sigh of relief, only to suddenly remember something. "Right, Tina! You're here to treat Oliver, aren't you?" "I heard from Jennie. That poor kid... he's had such a hard life. Since he's family, we should help however we can." Tina pursed her lips slightly. "Hugo, how long has it been since Jennie last saw her sister?" Hugo was taken aback by the question. He thought for a moment before replying, "It's been years. She didn't approve of our marriage back then, so after we got married, they barely kept in touch. Later, I heard she moved away, and they never saw each other again." After saying this, Hugo seemed startled. He lowered his voice and glanced around nervously. "Tina, is something wrong?" Tina could tell what he was worried about. The last incident with Claudia and her disguise had left Hugo deeply shaken. Even now, he hadn't fully recovered from the trauma.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAt the moment, she wasn't sure if the person in question was a threat. If Jennie hadn't noticed anything, it likely wasn't a big issue. Besides, the child's illness was genuine-there was no way to fake that.
Tina shook her head to reassure him. "It's nothing. I just find her personality so different from Jennie's. Plus, you've never really talked about her before, so I was curious." Hugo relaxed a little, exhaling quietly.
He explained, "It's not just her. Jennie's family is very different from her. She has an older brother too. Jennie's soft-hearted. No matter how her family treats her, she never holds a grudge." The affection in Hugo's voice was obvious, and Tina heard it clearly.
It seemed Jennie had chosen the right person to marry.
As it got late, Tina prepared to leave. "Hugo, I've already told Jennie-I'll be coming over regularly to treat the child." "Good," Hugo replied. "It's late. Be careful on your way back." Once inside the car, Tina narrowed her eyes and called Jayden. "Look into anyone in Ensford who might be deliberately approaching the Reed family. Also, investigate this Nancy woman." She wasn't being overly suspicious-it was just not the tto let her guard down.
With Claudia still at large, Tina was most concerned about the safety of Hugo and Jennie, who were defenseless against her.
When Tina arrived home, the lights in the house were already on.
Uncle Jared was back.
As soon as she opened the door, the aroma of food greeted her, instantly lifting her spirits. Hearing the sound of the door, Jared glanced toward the entrance. He was holding a cake mold in his hands. "Just a little longer. The cake is almost ready." Tina washed her hands and sat at the kitchen bar, watching Jared carefully spread frosting on the cake. The sight filled her with a deep sense of contentment.
"Uncle, don't tellyou started cooking forthe moment you got back." Jared hummed softly, not bothering to hide his care for her. "I called Jennie. She said you were on your way back, so I stayed here instead of going out." Tina thought of the jade pendant she'd received earlier and took it out for another look. After confirming there was nothing unusual about it, she set it aside.
Jared finished the last touch and brought the strawberry cake over. When he noticed the pendant on the table, he asked, "What's this?" Tina took a bite of the cake and glanced at it casually. "A thank-you gift from Jennie's sister." Jared could sense Tina was in a low mood. "Wasn't it just treating the child? Did something happen?" Tina continued eating as she replied, "Uncle, do you remember Claudia's powers? Her disguise ability is something none of us can see through. Just a few days ago, she ate a human heart to heal herself. For all we know, she might have already regained her abilities." Jared raised an eyebrow. "So, do you think this person is Claudia?" Tina didn't nod. She wasn't sure yet. "I can't say. She doesn't have any inner force in her pulse, but something about her feels completely opposite from Jennie." Jared sat down beside her and spoke slowly. "If we're not sure whether it's Claudia, let's not alert her. Tomorrow, I'll have someone keep an eye on things discreetly. If anything happens, we'll be able to respond immediately." Tina pressed her lips together. Until Jayden sent over the information, everything was just speculation. During dinner, Jared casually asked her about the child. "Jennie toldabout the kid's situation. What do you think? Anything unusual?" Tina frowned at the thought of the child. "He's been poisoned. Both his body and mind have suffered significant damage. Even if he recovers, he might never be completely normal." Jared nodded in agreement. "Physical wounds can be treated. Mental scars are harder to heal." Tina glanced at Jared. "That's why I want to find someone who can protect Hugo's family and help the child work through his emotions."
Jared thought for a moment. "I'll pull Courtney from the team tọc om accompany you." Tina shook her head. Knowing Courtney, she'd probably find the task overwhelming. "Courtney's capable, but she's not the type to be patient with a child." The first person who cto Tina's mind was Velma, but she was currently in college, making it inconvenient for her to leave.

"He's skilled in combat and can chat with anyone-whether it's an eighty-year-old grandmother or a three-year-old kid." Tina narrowed her eyes. While Hayden seemed like the perfect choice, she hesitated. "But his injuries..." "Injuries?" Jared chuckled. "Did his performance during the White family incident seem hindered in any way?" Tina smiled. With Hayden at the Reed family, she could rest easy.
More importantly, Hayden got along well with Jennie. Even if he stayed there for a long time, it wouldn't raise any suspicion.
Meanwhile, at the Cohen family home, Hayden was mid-meal when he suddenly sneezed loudly at the table.
Damon and Mr. Cohen, who were discussing marriage plans for the two families, paused mid- conversation.
Damon rolled his eyes so hard they nearly disappeared into his skull. He grabbed his chopsticks and tapped them on Hayden's head. "You're about to start a family, and you're still this careless! Are you trying to drivecrazy?" Hayden winced, holding his head in mock surrender. "Grandpa, I didn't mean to! They say sneezing means someone's thinking about you. Maybe Paula's thinking about me!" Hearing Paula's name, Damon's anger finally subsided. "You'd better visit the White family frequently these days. You know what gifts to bring, right? If you let Paula down again, I'll break your legs." Hayden sighed inwardly. Grandpa, you don't need to break my legs-they're already broken.
