Chapter 994: Uncle, This Medicine Is for Pregnant Women The medicine was brought over, and the moment Tina caught its scent, she instantly recognized the ingredients, their properties, the symptoms they treated, and how long it would take to work. She even knew what benefits it might bring her.
But she didn't want to drink it.
Tina hated taking medicine-only her mother and Uncle Jared knew this about her.
Her stomach churned as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "Uncle, can I not drink this? Look at me-do I look like someone who's unwell?" Jared knew her too well. He understood that no matter what he said, she would likely find a way to dismiss the medicine. He could only rely on a higher authority to persuade her.
"Your mother specifically instructedwhen we returned. You can't skip this medicine." Tina froze, narrowing her eyes at him with a double-edged tone. "Uncle, do you trust my medical expertise, or do you trust my mother's words more?" "I trust myself," Jared replied, his lips pressing into a thin line. For once, his strikingly handsface showed a faint blush. "The other night, I did lose a bit of control... If I accidentally hurt the baby-Tina, you know what I mean." Tina was at a loss for words.
That move caught her completely off guard. Jared knew she couldn't refuse him when he softened like this, and now, she was cornered.
Seeing her stay silent, Jared smiled and brought the bowl of medicine closer. Before handing it to her, he raised it to his own lips. "Half of it is enough for the effect. I'll drink half, and you can drink the rest." Tina froze, watching as Jared, holding the bowl in one hand, tilted it back and drank half without so much as a flinch.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe couldn't help but laugh bitterly. Uncle Jared was really going all out just to make her drink this. "Uncle, this medicine is for pregnant women, not a poison test. What's the point of you drinking it?" Jared shook his head, unconcerned. "I asked the pharmacist. These herbs are all nourishing and harmless for ordinary people." Tina didn't doubt him. She knew that if drinking this medicine could ease even a fraction of her discomfort, Jared wouldn't hesitate in the slightest.
So, what else could she say? Taking the bowl from Jared, she closed her eyes and downed the rest in one gulp. Jared blinked, surprised. Fortunately, he had already prepared sugar and cake nearby.
Tina took a big bite of the strawberry cake to suppress the bitterness lingering on her tongue. She glanced at him curiously. "Uncle, what are you looking at?" Jared smiled, casually reaching out to wipe the cream from the corner of her lips. His expression was full of indulgence. "I was thinking about when you were little. Even back then, you hated taking medicine. Your master always had to cup with clever tricks to get you to drink it." Tina's eyes gleamed mischievously, as if recalling something. "Uncle, don't tellyou already had thoughts aboutback then?" Jared's gaze softened, brimming with affection. "If I hadn't met you, I probably would've spent my life serving the country." Tina raised an eyebrow and pulled him closer. "That won't do. You can only be mine." Jared gently clasped her hand, his thumb brushing against her fingertips as their fingers intertwined. "The heavens have been kind to me. Maybe, deep down, I decided on you the first tI saw you." Their eyes met, and, unsurprisingly, Tina's face flushed red.
Whoever said that marriage was the grave of love clearly hadn't met them.
Uncle Jared had beceven more charming after marriage.
Leaning into Jared's embrace, Tina suddenly remembered something she had to attend to the next day. She raised her head. "Tomorrow, I need to visit Hugo. With Hayden there, I can go alone. If you cwith me, Jennie will figure out I'm pregnant in an instant." Since they wanted to keep the pregnancy a secret, they had to be careful.
Jared's reactions were so over-the-top that even a normal person would find them suspicious. Jennie, sharp and experienced, would surely notice something.
Jared fell silent for a moment, his expression serious. "Let Nathan go with you. Otherwise, I won't feel at ease." Tina nodded.
For Jared to say this, it was already the greatest compromise she could imagine.
The Next Morning Nathan was already waiting at the door when Tina cdownstairs. She grabbed her bag and was about to leave when Jared called her back.
She turned around to see him holding a thick coat, which he personally helped her put on. "It's a few degrees colder than last night. Don't catch a chill." Tina glanced at the two layers she was already wearing, then at the mild weather outside, and nodded.
Jared handed her a thermal bag filled with calming soup and fresh fruit. "Take this with you. If you get hungry on the way, you can eat." Tina sighed inwardly. It was just a pregnancy, but he was treating her like a national treasure.
Putting on the coat and taking the "snack pack," Tina looked at Jared. "I'm leaving now." Jared nodded and watched her go.
Before heading to the Reed family, Tina stopped by the lab.
She handed the jade pendant Nancy had given her to Wraith for a full analysis. It was the only thing that had suddenly appeared in her life recently, and she wanted to rule out any potential issues.
When she arrived at the Reed family, Hayden was already there.

"Can I?" Tina casually handed him the half-eaten fruit she'd been snacking on during the ride. "Finish it all. Don't waste it."
Curious, Hayden opened the box and clicked his tongue in appreciation, "So fancy. Where did you get this? I should buy sfor Paula too-autumn fruits are good for health." I Tina shot him a deadpan look. "Don't talk while you're eating." Seeing that no one else was around, Tina gave Hayden a meaningful glance. Hayden, chewing on a strawberry, pointed toward one of the rooms.
Tina walked over and knocked on the door.
Nancy opened it, dark circles under her eyes. She looked like she hadn't slept well but still forced a smile. "Tina, you're here. I'm so sorry to trouble you again." Tina's tone was calm. "How's Oliver been these past couple of days?"
Nancy's eyes immediately reddened at the mention of her son. "Oliver had another episode last night. He was restless all night and refuses to see anyone today." "I'll go check on him." Nancy nodded gratefully and left the room.
The atmosphere inside was even more stifling than Tina remembered. She closed the door behind her and walked along the wall toward a dark corner.
Her voice was steady as she addressed the small figure curled up on the floor. "Oliver, it's me." The boy flinched, showing a faint reaction to her voice.
Tina knew his guard was up at its highest. She didn't force him, instead sitting quietly nearby to let herself to let adjust to the oppressive environment. Only when he no longer seemed to resist her presence did she speak again, her tone calm and even. "Giveyour hand. I'll check your pulse." At the mention of a pulse check, the boy instinctively shook his head.
Tina didn't move closer, her voice unwavering. "Have you forgotten what you promised me?" Her words seemed to strike a nerve. The boy curled up tighter, his voice weak and hoarse. "Go... away."
