Chapter 42
“Sure,” Zane said, immediately pulling out his phone and transferring 15 thousand dollars to her.
“You're so good to me, Zane!” said Alice.
“Giveyour phone,” Zane said.
Hearing his words, Alice stopped grinning. “Sorry, | just remembered | have something to do!” she said, standing
up to escape.
However, as soon as she got up, Zane grabbed her by the arm. “Your phone.”
“Do you have to be in such a hurry, Zane?” Alice smiled awkwardly, but seeing his increasingly stern expression,
she reluctantly handed her phone
over.
Zane took the phone and opened the contacts, smiling as he saw the number saved under “Elysia“.
Alice stared at him in disbelief. She thought, ‘Did Zane smile? No way!‘ She asked, “Zane, do you have a crush
on Elysia?”
Ever since the last twhen Zane dropped off Elysia, something had felt off, but she hadn't quite figured it out
until now.
She thought, ‘How could Zane, such a proud guy, possibly send someone hand even shake hands with a
girl?’ The key thing was the speed he drove last time-now she finally understood why.
“You're just a kid. You shouldn’t be asking this,” said Zane.
“I'm not a kid anymore! I'll be honest with you, Zane. You and Elysia aren’t a good match. She’s still young, but
you're...” she stammered.
At her words, Zane shot her a sharp look, and Alice immediately shut her mouth. “Well, | still have something to
do...” She quickly grabbed her phone back from him and bolted away.
Zane looked at the number he had just entered into his phone, feeling a little uneasy. He dialed the number, and

tightly and didn’t respond for a long while. Elysia, seeing the unfamiliar number, was puzzled. She cautiously
asked, “Hello? Is someone there?”
It took Zane a moment to collect himself. “Hello, this is Zane Hartley. Do you remember me?”
Hearing the familiar name, Elysia was briefly shocked before asking carefully, “I do. How did you get my
number?”
Zane said, “Alice gave it to me.”
Elysia then remembered that she had given Alice her number back at Amour Café. “Oh. Is there something you
need?”
“I heard from Alice that you cin the first place. Congratulations,” said he.
“Thank you!” Elysia said.
Zane said, “Would you like to grab dinner sometime? | actually have sthings | need to discuss with you in
person.”
‘What could be so important that we needed to meet?‘ Elysia thought, feeling curious. She then responded,
“Sure, what tand where?” Zane said, “Tomorrow night at 7 o'clock, Stellar Restaurant. Don’t be late!”
After hanging up, Elysia lay awake for a long time. Thinking back to the last tshe saw Zane, her face flushed
slightly. It seemed like tomorrow held a bit more anticipation for her.
At the Davis residence, Robert recounted everything that had happened at school. Matthew listened, frowning.
“Are you saying that the Rosewood family’s recently recognized daughter cin first place?”
Robert said, “Yes.”
Matthew said, “Looks like that little girl from the Rosewood family is impressive. For someone who grew up in a
small town, she has quite a bit of
talent.”
Hearing Matthew praise Elysia made Robert unhappy. He had always been exceptional growing up, but Matthew
had never truly acknowledged his achievements. Yet Elysia, who had only gotten the top spot in her grade, was
getting all this praise from Matthew.

Robert said, “Dad, don’t you think you're overestimating Elysia a bit?”
Matthew chuckled. “Not at all. Just a few days ago, | heard that Sean went to the Rosewood residence to
apologize to that girl. Considering the Hayes family’s status in Sivro, you can tell that the girl is no simple
person.”
“Didn't the Hayes family visit just to save face for the Rosewood family?” Robert asked.
Matthew shot Robert a sideways glance before replying, “The Davis family might be just a scholarly family in
Sivro, but | can know a lot about the high society. The Rosewood family doesn’t have that much influence!”
Robert nodded but still felt confused. He thought, ‘Could Elysia really be that capable?’
Matthew said, “It occurred tothat the Rosewood and Davis families have a marriage agreement. Since the
biological daughter of the Rosewood family is back, we should visit tomorrow and settle your marriage.”
Upon hearing Matthew's words, Robert's anger flared. “No!”
“No?” Matthew snorted. “You don’t have the right to say no. That marriage agreement was made by your
grandfather. Are you going to defy him?”
“Can't we just have someone else instead? The Rosewood family has two daughters!” Robert argued.
Matthew understood immediately what Robert was implying. “Emma doesn’t have the qualifications to be my
daughter-in-law. She's just an adopted daughter of the Rosewood family. Compared to Elysia, she’s much worse!
“I know you've been close to each other, but now that you and Elysia are about to get married, you need to stop
seeing Emma from now on,” Matthew said firmly.
Robert tried to say something, but Matthew interrupted him. “This matter is settled. Remember, you are the only
son of the Davis family. No matter what you do, you have to think about us!”
With that, Matthew stood up and walked out, leaving Robert sitting in the living room, unable to calm his
emotions for a long while.

The next morning, the Davis family paid a visit to the Rosewood family. When Emma saw Robert, her face lit up
with joy. “What are you doing here, Robert?”
Scott said, “That's rude, Emma. You should greet the elders first.”
Hearing Scott's words, Emma finally noticed Matthew and Rachel sitting on the couch. She was puzzled, thinking,
‘What are they doing here?’
Then it occurred to her-the marriage agreement between the Rosewood and Davis families. Thinking of this, she
glanced at Robert. Honestly, she wasn't yet ready to becRobert's fiancée.
“Emma,” Bella said, noticing her hesitation. She was worried that Emma’s delay might leave a bad impression on
Matthew and Rachel, so she gave her a subtle look.
Emma snapped out of her daze and hurried over to Matthew and Rachel. She put on a shy, demure expression
and said, “Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis, | was rude just now. Please forgive me.”
“There's no need for apologies. We're all family here,” Rachel said with a smile, waving Emma over. “Cand
sit by me.”
Emma quickly approached, linking her arm with Rachel's, and gently rested her head on her shoulder. “It's been
so long, Mrs. Davis. I've missed you so much.”
Bella watched their interaction and couldn't help but laugh. “She is closer to you than she is to me.”
Rachel said, “Are you jealous, Bella? Honestly, | really adore Emma. If Nora was as sweet and affectionate as her,
I'd be completely satisfied.” “Nora is well-read, with an innate elegance and grace. She's one of the finest
talents in Sivro. How could | compare to her?” Emma replied. “Yes. | envy you for having a daughter like Nora.
Unlike Emma, who's always been so carefree since she was little,” Bella added with a playful sigh. Matthew
cleared his throat before asking, “Where is Ms. Elysia Rosewood?”
Scott quickly explained, “She has a morning run routine. She should be back soon.”
Emma frowned and thought, ‘Why do they want to see Elysia? Is there anything to do with her? Well, she can just
play the supporting role, which isn’t a bad idea.
As they were talking, Elysia walked in from outside, still slightly sweaty from her run. Upon seeing her, Scott
waved her over. “Cgreet Mr. Davis
and Mrs. Davis.”
