Scott looked at Emma and Bella with a mix of disappointment and frustration, the words of reprimand for Emma

stuck in his throat. He finally just waved his hand and said, “We'll deal with this matter after the birthday party is

over.”

Emma breathed a sigh of relief. Although she didn’t know how Scott was going to handle it, at least she had

sbreathing room. She thought. As long as it isn’t the last minade, there is still a chance for things to turn

around’

The next morning, the whole Rosewood family was in an uproar, with everyone bustling about in preparation for

the birthday party.

Elysia was woken up early from her sleep, busy with getting dressed up, choosing a gown, and all sorts of

preparations

Einma watched the commotion in the family, feeling like an outsider, completely out of place with the scene

before her. She remembered her own birthday parties in the past; the family had never gone to such lengths.

She thought. Why does Elysia get so much attention h’s just a birthday. Is it really necessary to involve everyone

in the whole family? Her jealousy was driving her mad.

Bella had just cout of the bedroom when she saw Emma standing at the second-floor staircase. Seeing

Emma'’s Jonely and desolate figure, she felt a pang of heartache.

She slowly walked up and put her arm around Emma. She said, “When it’s your next birthday, we'll do the same

for you, and even make it more grand than this.”

Hearing this, Emma asked happily, Really, Mom?” Hereyes sparkled with excitement, but the light in them

quickly dimmed.

She said. “Mom, there is no necessary to go through all this trouble for me. It's just a birthday, it’s not that

important. As long as Elysia is happy. I'm already very happy”

Hearing this, Bella's heartache for Emma only grew. She thought, ‘Emma is my precious daughter. When does

she start envying others? She is such a sensible daughter. Why are there still people who are never satisfied with

her?

upstairs. She reached the door to Elysia’s room.

Although the full view was obscured, it was clear that she looked absolutely breathtaking.

Elena gently knocked on the door, and Elysia turned around.

Upon seeing Elena, Elysia’s face lit up. She said, “T’ve been waiting for you.”

With a smile, Elena walked towards Elysia and said, “You look beautiful today”

Elysia replied, “You do too. You seem different today!

“In what way?” Elena asked, pulling out a wooden brocade box from her bag and placing it in front of Elysia. She

said, “A birthday gift”

Elysia looked at the wooden box. She paused for a moment then she pushed the box back to Elena with a

mischievous smile. She asked, “Can | change the gift?”

Elena asked. “What gift do you want?”

Elysia said, “I want to know why y you've been helpingall this time.” This had been a question that had been

bothering Elysia for a long time.

Although she was certain that Elena had no ill intentions towards her, she still wanted to know the reason behind

her actions.

Elena was taken aback for a moment, then she smiled and said “Because | envy you”

“Envy me?” Elysia asked as she pointed at herself, her face a picture of disbelief.

Elena said. “Yes, | envy that you can be yourself without any reservations.”

Hearing this, Elysia looked back at Elena, noticing that Elena was also looking at her. Their eyes met, and Elysia

saw a complex emotion in Elena’s eyes, something like sorrow, yet mixed with a hint of helplessness.

Elena explained, “From the day | was born, | was burdened with high expectations. | grew up in a family full of

restrictions and constraints, never daring to relax for a moment.
