Chapter 13 His Fiancee

Corynn stretched her arms and massaged her temples. When she looked toward the window, she found that it

was already dark outside.

She grabbed her phone and saw that she had received a slew of messages. She had set it on silent earlier, so

that she could focus on her work.

Corynn tidied up her desk, grabbed her purse and coat, then left the office.

The entire building was silent at this hour, and the only sound that could be heard was the sharp clacking of

her heels against the tiled floor.

Unfortunately, Corynn was held up in traffic on her way home. She lowered the driver side window and kept one

hand on the steering wheel while she checked her phone with the other. It had been vibrating for the better part

of her drive.

Sure enough, she had received many messages from an unknown number.

Assuming that they were from Elliot, Corynn didn’t even bother opening them. She tossed her phone into the

passenger seat and waited for the traffic to move. When it finally did, however, her car suddenly jolted forward

as the vehicle behind her rammed into her bumper.

It was a good thing that her seatbelt was in place, but the impact still lurched Corynn forward and made her

dizzy.

After getting her bearings, she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car. As she approached the one

that had hit her, she saw a familiar face sitting behind its wheel-Amanda. Elliot's fiancee.

“So sorry about that,” Amanda called out in a singsong voice. “Didn't mean to do that.”

Corynn glanced at the dented rear of her car. Given how slowly the traffic had been moving and the amount of

damage done, the crash was clearly intentional.

Corynn turned to look at Amanda, whose expression belied her apologetic words. They both knew her actions

were deliberate, but they also knew that there was nothing Corynn could do about it.

Amanda could simply claim to be a poor driver, that she had confused the accelerator for the brake. After all,

an incident like this was no big deal to the heiress of the Willis family. She was more than capable of paying for

the damages. Hell, she could even buy Corynn a new car. Amanda'’s lot in life was such that she wouldn't have

had to worry about a thing had she actually run over someone and killed them

“I'll send you the billing for the repairs,” Corynn said before turning to leave.

“I've been sending you messages, Corynn,” Amanda called after her in a rush. “Why aren't you replying to any

of them?”

Corynn frowned. So the barrage of messages was from Amanda? “What do you want from me?”

Amanda smiled. “Well, since you refused to respond, | had no choice but to use more drastic measures to get

your attention. | hope you don’t mind that little bump from a while ago.”

Corynn took a deep breath and told herself to calm down.

“Don’t worry, I'll pay for the damages,” Amanda continued. “Do you think you have a moment to talk, though?”

Corynn sighed in resignation. She called a tow service for her car, then followed Amanda to a nearby self-

service cafe.

She watched as Amanda expertly brewed a fresh pot of coffee and poured her a cup.

“What is it that you want to talk about?” Corynn asked coldly.

Amanda sipped her coffee and leaned back in her chair. “Why did you cback?”

“Do | have no right to be back? This place is my home. Or are you under the impression that the entire Orelens

belongs to you, Miss Willis?” Corynn gave her a mocking smile when she said this.

“You being here troubles me,” Amanda said. She glanced at Corynn’s untouched cup of coffee and smiled. “You

are aware that | am Elliot's fiancee, right?”

“I am. So what? Elliot and | are long over. If you calledhere because you are worried that | would take him

away from you, I'm telling you that your warning is not necessary.” Without taking her eyes off Amanda, Corynn

drank the whole cup in one go.

Real life had never been the sas the stories depicted in books. Happy endings were a rarity.

“Is that so?” Amanda said, her tone turning sharp. “But | know that he went to see you, Corynn. Didn't his visit

make your heart flutter, just a little bit?”

She refilled Corynn’s cup. “I mean, | get that you won't forgive him easily. He did kill your baby, after all.”

Corynn'’s fingers instinctively tightened around her cup as the memory stabbed at her heart.

She could safely say that she felt nothing for Elliot anymore, but the scould not be said for the unborn baby

she had lost.

Amanda smirked. “Elliot was dead set on eliminating all the obstacles to our upcoming marriage. The fact that

you and your baby fell in that category is such a misfortune. | really feel sorry for what you had to go through

these past three years, Corynn.”

Corynn forced herself to remain calm. The more Amanda prodded at her wounds, the more she refused to show

any signs of weakness. “Why are you tellingthis, then? Why did you even reach out? Surely it’s not because

you're feeling insecure in your relationship?”
