Chapter 24 A Show

Corynn didn’t rest even after settling the matter with the engineers. She told Tia to conduct a survey within the

company asking whether the employees wanted to stay or go. Whoever wishes to leave would be let go that

sday with their salary of the month.

Corynn didn’t need people whose loyalties wavered at the slightest shift in power, nor was she interested in

having them close to her.

Before long, Tia was knocking on her office door with the roster.

“Cin,” Corynn called out.

Ta looked troubled as she walked into the room and sat in front of Corynn’s desk. “I have the results, Miss

Harper. I'm afraid that half of the total workforce has left.”

Corynn wasn't surprised by this outcome. “I see.”

“Miss Harper, are you certain that our company won't go bankrupt?” There was a hint of worry in Tia’s tone.

Corynn looked her in the eye and nodded. “Yes. Truston this. We won't have further issues with delivery.”

*All right.” Tia breathed a sigh of relief and took her leave.

Needless to say, news of mass resignations at Harper Group quickly made the rounds on the Internet, sparking

numerous online discussions. Apart from Corynn and Erick, everyone was convinced that the company was

heading for its ultimate downfall.

And it was exactly how Corynn wanted things to play out. She needed the misinformation to spread, so that they

could mislead Amanda and catch her off-guard.

Sure enough, the news also reached Amanda. She simply smiled and went on with her day like usual.

Amanda had to admit that Corynn was more persistent than she had ever anticipated, but in the end, it was her

who held true power.

Unable to resist, Amanda eventually leaked the Harper Group's pathetic state to the media. The vultures

descended almost instantly, picking the company apart on any and all platforms available.

When she was done, Amanda ordered a maid to bring her phone over, then she called Corynn.

“What do you want?” was the first thing Corynn said.

“Have you made a decision yet?” Amanda drawled out. “Will you take the money and leave Orelens, or will you

watch the Harper Group collapse?”

“Like | said before, my only answer is that you and Elliot leave the city yourselves,” Corynn retorted, sounding

utterly exhausted.

Amanda smirked. “Corynn, Corynn. You should know by now that you will never win against me. All eyes are

on your company as we speak, waiting for your next big blunder to see if it would be the death blow everyone is

waiting for.”

“Yeah, right, dream on! I'm not going anywhere!” With that, Corynn hung up abruptly.

Amanda’s upper lip curled in disdain, and she let out a string of expletives. Even when backed into a corner,

Corynn was still refusing to yield.

It made Amanda wonder just how long the bitch could keep this up.

On the other side, Corynn’s expression eased up as she tossed her phone aside.

The act was necessary to fool Amanda into complacency.

That evening, Corynn donned a black, low-cut gown and carefully applied light makeup. Then she went to a

certain club.

It had cto her knowledge that several business partners of the Harper Group were meeting there. Her plan

was to make a show of pleading for their help, then leave in despair once they rejected her.

Corynn strode confidently into the establishment and headed straight for a private room on the second floor.

Instead of barging inside, she intercepted a waiter carrying a tray of glasses filled with wine. She took it from

him, saying that she would bring it over herself.

The moment she stepped through the door, she was almost blinded by the flashing lights. Loud, pulsing music

blasted through the speakers, and the smell of alcohol was thick in the air.

There was a mix of men and women dancing intimately in the middle of the room, while a handful of men were

playing poker around the coffee table.

Corynn walked over and set the tray down. “Liam, Aron,” she called out softly.

Everyone around the table looked up in unison, their faces bearing similar expressions of surprise. Liam grinned.

“Corynn! What brings you here?”

Corynn tugged at the hem of her dress, looking uncomfortable. “I need your help. My father and | are running

out of options.”

Aron frowned, looking a little troubled. “Look, Corynn, it's not that we don’t want to help, it's just that...” He

trailed off with a tic sigh.

Liam spoke again. “Corynn, we've worked with your father for years. If we were in a position to help, we would

have already done so. But this is the Willis family we're talking about. We can’t afford to offend them in any

way.”

Corynn lowered her head and made her eyes tear up. She stayed like that for a few seconds before taking a

deep breath and forcing a smile. “I understand. Sorry for interrupting you, | won't bother you any further.” She

turned to leave, and was walking to the door when someone called after her. “Corynn, wait!”
