Chapter 58 We Owe Him
“what the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Jason eyed Elliot vigilantly.
Instead of explaining himself, Elliot simply let out a cold scoff and brushed past Jason, leaving the latter in the
dark about what happened.
Jason watched him leave, his expression dark. Finally, he turned around and headed towards Corynn’s ward.
Even before entering, he could hear faint sounds of sobbing from inside. He pushed the door open and saw a
pale-faced Corynn lying in bed, then turned to Erick for answers.
“Erick, what happened? On the way here, Jason had been mulling over the meaning behind Elliot's words. Could
it be that someone had tried to harm Corynn again last night?
Erick, who had been trying to comfort the inconsolable Shirley, excused himself and lead Jason outside the ward.
Last night, someone made an attempt on Corynn’s life,” Erick explained, his voice hoarse. “She almost didn’t
make it this taround...”
Jason's heart leaped to his throat. Just hearing this made him break out in cold sweat.
Someone had dared to commit such an act in the hospital?! Ludicrous!

Jason silently cursed himself for being too complacent. While he knew that whoever was targeting Corynn
wouldn't give up so easily, he brazenly assumed that they wouldn't dare to strike so soon.
Clenching his fists, he couldn't help but punch the wall hard in an attempt to vent his frustration.
Those bastards deserved to rot in hell!
Taking a deep breath to calm his anger, he finally understood the meaning behind the Elliot's mocking smile 4
earlier.
“Was Elliot the one who saved her?” Jason's throat was dry as he asked this, his voice barely above a whisper. He
had promised to protect Corynn, yet he failed her again.
Erick nodded, looking up to hold back his tears. “Yes, we owe him big time. Without him, we would've lost her...”
Jason gritted his teeth. “Then, what about the attacker? Were you able to find out anything?”
Erick rubbed his aching temples and explained helplessly, “The attacker is strange; he has the intelligence of a
six-year-old, so even if we question him all we want, we won't be able to get anything useful out of him.”
“I see.” Jason's gaze turned frosty. “Erick, please letknow when Corynn wakes up.”
“Will do.” Erick locked eyes with Jason. He understood what the latter was planning to do, but he didn’t try to
stop him

“We see what you've done for Corynn,” he added, planting his palm firmly on Jason’s shoulder
Jason nodded appreciatively, knowing that this was Erick’s way of recognizing his efforts.
After leaving the hospital, Jason immediately ordered an investigation into the attacker's background,
determined not to let any of those scumbags get away with this.
Any suspects found would be swiftly dealt with.
Fortunately, Tyree’s social circle was very simple, consisting only of his parents and his older sister,
Jason studied the information his men had gathered. Despite Tyree’s stunted intelligence, Tyree’s parents doted
on Tyree due to their preference for sons over daughters. The entire family was supported financially by Tyree’s
older sister, Lillie.
Jason drummed his fingers on the table as he cacross this bit of information. On paper, Lillie seemed highly
suspicious.
On the day of the incident, it was supposed to be Tyree’s parents accompanying Tyree at the hospital, but for
sreason, Lillie took over and sent them home.

Half an hour after Lillie left Tyree’s ward, Tyree went to Corynn’s room.
The timing was too coincidental.
And the records showed that Lillie hadn't married yet, likely because her family kept on exploiting her. Because
of this, Lillie and her family were always at odds.
It seemed highly possible that Lillie had taken sform of bribe to incite Tyree to commit murder.
However, upon checking all her bank accounts, Jason found no record of any recent significant transactions.
Could the deal have been done in cash?
Jason stroked his chin, deep in thought. He felt it was high the met Lillie in person.
