Chapter 175

Before going to bed, Michelle gave Eloise a foot soak with smedication.

"You gotta take care of yourself, girl. Don't let anything mess you up," Michelle gently advised.

"It's just a scratch, no biggie," Eloise tried to keep her cool.

Seeing that Eloise could walk slowly, Michelle didn't think much of it.

As the soak was about to finish, Michelle hesitantly said, "Harvey's been waiting downstairs for a while now. You

wanna see him?"

Eloise was taken aback.

After a moment, she shook her head lightly, "I'll deal with him in a couple of days. Not really in the mood right

now."

Michelle didn't push her.

She tenderly stroked Eloise's head, "I don't know what went down between you two, but whatever you decide,

I'm with you. Be picky when choosing your partner, and if he ain't right for you, give him the boot. Then keep

looking for the right one."

Eloise cracked a small smile.

Michelle felt a little relieved.

A few weeks later, Eloise's foot was getting better. She and Michelle went to the cemetery to put fresh flowers on

the graves of Angus and Louise.

It was a sunny day with flowers blooming everywhere.

Upon entering the cemetery, they found a fresh bouquet of lilies on Angus and Louise's grave.

Michelle guessed it was Griffin who had left the lilies there. She glanced at Eloise, who simply tossed the lilies

aside without expression and placed the daisies she brought in front of the grave.

Michelle sighed lightly.

They spent quite stin the cemetery and it was almost noon when they left.

A golden Bentley was parked at the entrance. It was Harvey, smoking and leaning against the car. Despite the

bright sunshine, his demeanor was gloomy.

He had lost sweight since a few weeks ago, but he was still dashing.

Eloise didn't avoid him. She knew she had to deal with the issues between them.

As he approached, Harvey looked deeply into her eyes.

"I'll drive you home," he offered.

Michelle sensed that Eloise wanted to resolve things, so she volunteered, "I'll take

a cab home. Eloise, you guys talk."

Eloise nodded, reminding Michelle to be careful on the road.

Michelle quickly caught a cab and went hfirst.

Harvey put out his cigarette, opened the car door, and gently said, "Get in."

Eloise got in the passenger seat.

Although she was able to walk, her movements were still a bit stiff and her wound would occasionally hurt.

Harvey joined her in the car. After closing the door, he slowly fastened his seatbelt. His gaze fell on her foot, and

he quietly asked, "Does your foot still hurt?"

Eloise glanced at her foot and smiled faintly.

"My foot's a lot better now, thanks for worrying."

Harvey didn't start the car right away. He looked at Eloise and carefully said, "Eloise, | like you. | don't want us to

break up. | want to start over with you. | won't see Joan again, at most, I'll meet her agent."

Eloise just listened quietly.

She didn't feel happy or sad, as if she was an outsider listening to a story.

She even casually suggested, "Harvey, why don't we find a proper place to talk?"

Harvey didn't respond. After a few seconds, he chuckled lightly and simply said, "Alright."

He drove her to a fancy restaurant.

The restaurant was reserved for them, so only the two of them were there.

Eloise didn't eat anything. She just ordered a cup of coffee. Her delicate fingers

lightly touched the coffee cup, her heart filled with bitterness.

In the past few days, she finally understood Harvey's feelings.

He was trying to win her back.

But isn't it hypocritical to hurt someone and then try to make amends?

His devotion to her was based on his mood, while Eloise had given him her heart without hesitation. Even

knowing it was a recipe for trouble, she did it anyway.

Her background was a world apart from his, but for him she even tried to learn hobbies she didn't like.

Pastry making, flower arranging, tea ceremony...

In the contrast, his ex-girlfriend, his first love, was the daughter of the famous Griffin. She was willing to study in

France just to make herself worthy of him. Looking back, Eloise found it all so ridiculous and absurd.

She drank half her coffee and then quietly said, "Harvey, let's end this."

Harvey's eyes fell on her face.

After a while, he slowly said, "Maybe we should take a break, it might be good for both of us."

Eloise didn't avoid his gaze, she just smiled lightly.

"I mean, let's cut off our relationship. Forever. Even on birthdays and holidays, there's no need for greetings."

After Eloise finished, Harvey suddenly called the waiter, "Serve the food."

The waiter smiled, "Of course, Mr. Horigan. We'll serve in ten minutes."

Eloise couldn't help but ask, "Harvey?"

Harvey firmly said, "Let's finish this meal, then we'll talk."

Delicious food was served, but only Harvey was eating.

He ate for a long time, but clearly wasn't tasting the food.

He was actually waiting. He was waiting for Eloise to regret and take back what

she had just said. But at this point, once Eloise made her decision, how could she easily change it?

Harvey wiped his lips lightly with a napkin.

He calmly asked her, "Are you sure? You really want to end our relationship?"

They had lived together for a long tand a lot had happened, they were happy together. Harvey felt there was

no need to end their relationship completely just because of Joan.

Eloise gently responded.

She said, "I've thought it through, let's end it."

Harvey was already a golden boy, he only flirted with Eloise besides Joan. Now

that she's initiating the break up, he could tell she's made up her mind.

His thinking was, if the relationship made Eloise uncomfortable, or unhappy,

they'd be better off going their separate ways.

What followed was a not-so-pleasant conversation between them.

Being a rich kid, he had to compensate the woman when breaking up. it was fair for the companionship she had

given him.

Harvey thought for a moment, "That apartment, I'll have my secretary transfer the ownership to you."

The apartment is worth tens of millions of dollars. If Eloise was a regular girl,

she'd be over the moon with such a 'big gift".

But when Eloise was with him, she never cared about money.

Now that he was 'degrading' her with money, but she wasn't angry, she just calmly

told him, "I don't want the apartment."

Harvey was taken aback, with Eloise still staring at him.

Harvey understood her decision, so he pulled out his checkbook and wrote a

check for a million dollars.

Then he gently passed the check to her.

He said in a cool and dignified manner, "Eloise, our relationship is over, and we

won't see each other anymore. If you need help in the future, you can contact my secretary."

Eloise didn't refuse.

She folded the check and put it in her bag.

She sincerely thanked him, and made her last request, "Attorney Horigan, there

are still sthings in the apartment. | hope to take them."

Harvey pulled out a cigarette, lit it and took a deep puff.

With a deep gaze, he smiled and said, "Alright, | won't be in the apartment these

few days, you can take your things. After you're done, just leave the keys with Denise."

Eloise thanked him politely.

As she prepared to leave, Harvey showed sgentlemanly manners and

offered to see her off.

Eloise shook her head.

She stood up, smiling, "No need to seeoff, Attorney Horigan. Thank you for

helping my father in the past... we're even now."

Eloise lowered her head, and said, "Goodbye forever, Harvey."

Then she slowly walked out of the restaurant.

Harvey, hearing her call him by his nfor the last time, sat there without

moving. He watched her frail figure through the glass window. Suddenly, he felt a sting in his eyes...

He thought, maybe it was because the sunlight outside the window was too bright.
