Chapter 40 Eloise didn't say anything.
Max watched her in silence for a moment. He put down his drink, and stood up, "Dinner's ready." Eloise was giving him the cold shoulder, "Max, you don't have to do this." He cracked a smile at her words. He walked up to her, gently cupped her chin, then murmured, "Yeah, we don't have to do this, especially since you're treatinglike I'm sbig bad wolf. Eloise, do you hatethat much?" Eloise stood still, refusing to shed a tear. Crying over a guy like Max was totally not worth it. She looked at him and whispered, "My love or hate for you won't change a thing." "Why not choose to love me, then? At least you'd be happier, right?" Max gently caressed her face, like he was savoring the moment.
He had women by his side, even a beautiful fiancée. But Eloise was different. She was the woman he had held off from sleeping with for four years, and now he wanted her.

Max, if you want my company, you'll have to wait until my father and Michelle are safe out of Peterborough. Otherwise, we've got nothing to talk about." Max stepped back, sizing her up. He chuckled, asking, "When did you get so tough?" He was in a good mood that day, so he agreed, "Fine, you got it. As long as you promise to be with me, I'll get Angus and Michelle out of Peterborough. I'll return everything to the Laurent family that belongs to them." Eloise breathed a sigh of relief.
Max suddenly hugged her and cheerfully said, "I bought a villa in the suburbs for you. I'll cto see you when I have time, alright?" Eloise remained aloof, but not as sharp as before.
Max wanted to cheer her up, so he suggested, "How about we have a kid? Eloise, I want a little girl as sweet as you." Eloise felt sick to her stomach. Veronica was right. Max must have smental issues. How else could he do all those bad things and still act so sweet? Eloise loathed him. Her body stiffened in resistance. Max knew it, but he didn't give a damn. She was in his control now, and he had all the tin the world to shape her. Eloise was so pure, like a blank sheet of paper. He wanted to fill it with his name.
Eloise didn't stick around. When she left, Max personally saw her to the villa door. Eloise now had a set of his keys.
"I'll drop the lawsuit tomorrow. Your father and Michelle will be fine." Max gave a faint smile, "Eloise, I don't want to wait too long. Don't letdown, okay?" Standing at the door, Eloise looked at him and said softly, "Max, when have I ever let you down?" After saying that, she looked up at him. Her once tender eyes were now filled with resentment.
Max didn't want to see her like this. He offered to drive Eloise home, but she turned him down.
"It's starting to rain. Can't you letbe the good guy just once and give you a ride? He teased. The content is youja on novelenglish.net!

and walked into the drizzling night.
Max was left standing there, empty-handed. He watched Eloise's retreating figure, fullodetermination. He suddenly had a feeling that no matter what he did to try to keep Eloise, her heart was no longer with him. Max didn't feel upset for long though. He was convinced that his feelings for Eloise were just a man's desire to conquer and nothing more. He had never truly loved her.
Never!
