Chapter 118
-Grayson'’s POV-
“I'll take it from here,” | said curtly, ending the call. My phone buzzed again almost immediately.
| picked it up with a sigh. “What now, Rickon?”
“You didn’t say thank you for getting the man who will lead you to the person after your company,” Rickon said,
his voice practically dripping with smugness.
If looks could kill, my glare through the phone would've done the job. | hung up without responding, ignoring the
temptation to throw the phone across the room.
The sound of the door opening drew my attention. Ava stepped in, wrapped in nothing but a towel. Her damp
hair clung to her shoulders, water droplets trailing along her flushed skin. My wolf stirred immediately, and | felt
it ripple through me, but | kept my expression neutral.
Her cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red as her gaze met mine, and | knew she was thinking about last
night-just as | was. | hadn't planned for it to happen. Hell, | hadn't even thought it was possible for someone like
completely. But Ava... she made the impossible happen. She always did. And last night had been nothing short of
explosive.
| cleared my throat as she opened her mouth to speak at the st| said, “We need to talk.”
She hesitated, then let out a small sigh, crossing the room to sit on the bed. Her eyes flickered to the mirror
across from us, and her blush deepened even further.
Before | could stop myself, | reached for her, pulling her toward me.
“What... what are you doing?” she asked, her voice a mixture of confusion and nervousness.
| didn’t answer immediately. | guided her until she was sitting in front of me, her knees brushing against mine.
My hands moved on their own, gently brushing damp strands of hair away from her face.
“I'm sorry,” | said quietly.
Her eyes widened in surprise. “I thought you didn’t apologize,” she whispered, her voice catching slightly.
A small smile tugged at my lips. “I guess | make exceptions when it comes to you.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHer expression softened, and she returned the smile before sighing. “I’m sorry too. For what | said about your
wolf, for going after that man on my own... | really just wanted to help. And for lashing out at you when you
savedfrom jail. But even if he was a bad man, | still-”
“It was self-defense,” | interrupted gently. “I know you're not a murderer, Ava. We'll find a way to work through
this. Together.”
Her shoulders sagged in relief, but I could see the weight of everything still lingering in her eyes. Just like the
weight | carried. The list of unresolved problems was endless-finding out who was behind hitting our car that
night, who was behind killing Alphas and the attack still, the curse hanging over my head, Rickon’s inevitable
gloating, the fact that Elaine hated me, and the war we were somehow destined to stop. But maybe, just for
now, | could push it all aside. But maybe-just maybe-I could push all of that aside, if only for a little while. Maybe
that was why, deep down, I'd brought Ava here. To Paris.
To escape.
“You still with me?” Her voice broke through my thoughts, and blinked, realizing I'd zoned out.

“Yeah. Did you say something?”

She tilted her head, and the effect was disarming when her eyes shifted, gold flecks shimmering amidst the blue.
“I said we still have things to talk about. Like how we're always fighting”
“Well then,” | said, leaning back slightly, “let's stop fighting.”
Her lips twitched. “And what about the fact that you don’t want kids?”
“I'll consider the possibility,” | replied.
Her eyebrows shot up. “Really? Just like that?”
“Yes.”
She narrowed her eyes atbut quickly moved on. “And you can’t just whiskoff to another country without
asking.”
“Next time, I'll ask you.”
“Stop being so agreeable,” she huffed, but there was laughter in her voice.
Her laughter was infectious, and | found myself smiling. “I don’t want to fight anymore, Ava. | have enough to
deal with. The last thing | need is to worry about you leavingwhile I'm at it. | want you to stay.”
Her expression softened. “I want to stay too,” she said quietly. Then, with a sudden grin, she added, “But maybe
we can fight just a little... I'm looking forward to all the makeup sex we'll be having.”
A laugh escapedas | pulled her closer, cupping her face and kissing her softly. She kissedback, her
hands brushing against my chest before she pulled away with a laugh.
“Not now,” she murmured. “I'm still sore.”
| chuckled, watching as she clapped her hands together suddenly “Oh my goddess,” she said, eyes wide. “We're
in Paris! We have to-"
| cut her off with a smirk. “We'll see everything. But for now...” | glanced at the clock. “You've got three days
before you go back to work, and we'll fly back after. Maybe we can just spend the day in.”
She smiled, leaning intoslightly. “Okay. But I'm kind of hungry.”
As if on cue, there was a knock at the door. “Cin,” | called out.
Her eyes widened as the door opened, and she quickly pulled the towel tighter around herself. | smirked, tugging
her closer and pulling the duvet over us just as the private chef I'd hired stepped in.
The chef, a tall man with a thick French accent, smiled politely. “Everything is ready, sir.”
Ava'’s blush deepened as she greeted him in flawless French, her voice lilting with ease.
I nodded at the chef. “We'll be down in a minute.”
He inclined his head respectfully and left the room. The moment the door closed, Ava jabbedlightly in the
ribs.
“Grayson!” she hissed, her cheeks redder than ever, “I'm practically naked.”
| grinned as she crawled out from under the duvet, moving to get dressed. My eyes followed her movements,
unable to look away. The curve of her back, the way her hair shimmered under the light-it was mesmerizing.

When we finally stepped out of the room, Ava’s eyes widened as he took in the house,
“Grayson,” she breathed, her voice full of awe. “This is beautiful
| couldn’t help but smile at her reaction. The house was a masterpiece-floor-to-ceiling windows letting in
streams of sunlight, elegant French architecture blending seamlessly with modern touches.
“You'll get a tour after we eat,” | said, pulling her gently toward the dining area.
She glanced at me, her smile radiant. “You spoil me, you know that?”
| leaned down, brushing a kiss against her temple. “Only because you deserve it.”
For the next few hours, the weight of everything seemed to lift. | smiled watching Ava as we ate, and for a
fleeting moment, | felt like the world wasn’t trying to crushunder its chaos. But as the saying goes, all good
things must cto an end. | just didn’t think it would be this abrupt or this devastating.
My phone buzzed, pullingback into reality. | glanced at the screen, and my stomach dropped.
Ava'’s voice cut through the silence. “What's wrong?”
| couldn't tear my eyes from the message, “We need to fly back. Elaine just tried to kill herself.”
