Chapter 57 Who Is She Seeing
Eric slowed his steps, drawing closer without making a sound, careful not to alert anyone in the room.
“Who is it?” Nyla asked, her voice tight with concern as she gripped Hadley’s hand. “Is it someone | know? Can
I trust him?”
Hadley hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “He’s experienced, dependable... and the best part is, he really
cares about me. He'll take good care of me.”
Nyla went silent, processing what Hadley had said.
Everything Hadley mentioned was what Eric had never given her.
Nyla sighed softly. “Sounds good, then.”
“Yes.” Hadley nodded, her voice quieter. “Nyla, please do this for me. If you don’t, | won't be able to face him
while I'm legally another man’s wife.”
“Hadley...” Nyla hesitated, her voice laced with reluctance. “Does Eric really have no chance at all?”
“Nyla?”
Hadley found the question almost laughable.
“He doesn’t need one. In fact, if anything, our divorce will only be a relief for him.”
It was clear now-there was no turning back.
Nyla finally nodded. “Alright, since you've found where you truly belong, we can’t keep holding you back.”
“Thank you,” Hadley said, a touch of joy in her voice.
“Eric.” Nyla glanced at her grandson, who had quietly approached. She sighed. “You heard what Hadley said.”
Hadley jumped, startled.
She had been facing away from the door and only now noticed him standing there.
Quickly, she stood and nodded politely toward Eric.
“Yes,” Eric replied with a casual shrug.
“Good.” Nyla sighed. She then shot Eric a glare, frustration mixed with helplessness. “Make tto finalize the
divorce with Hadley soon.”
“Thank you, Nyla!”

Hadley pressed her lips together, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Eric noticed the spark of happiness in her. Was she really that pleased? And who was this person she claimed to
love?
“Hadley.”
Nyla couldn't hide the reluctance in her voice, the worry for Hadley’s future still lingering.
“Bring him by sometime, alright? Lettake a look at him.”
Nyla thought to herself, “Hadley’s already suffered through one bad marriage because of me. | have to make
sure this guy really is the right one for her.”
But how could Hadley respond to that?
She offered a smile, keeping her answer vague. “Yes, | will. When he has sfree time.”
“Then I'll be waiting.”
Nyla looked over at Eric, who was standing nearby, and waved him over. “Why are you just standing there? Sit
down and joinfor stea.”
“Okay.”
“Hadley, my dear.” Nyla motioned toward her. “Can you grab ssilverware for Eric?”
“Sure, no problem.”
Hadley agreed and stood up to leave.
As soon as she was gone, Nyla’s expression turned serious as she turned her gaze to Eric.
“Who is this person Hadley says she loves?”
“Huh?” Eric blinked, surprised, and shook his head. “I don’t know.”
“You don’t know? What a loser!”
Nyla sneered, narrowing her gaze. “What did | tell you? | asked you to look out for Hadley like she’s your sister,
and this is how you show up? You don’t even know who she’s seeing?”
Eric fell silent, but couldn't resist responding, “I've never had a sister. | wouldn't even know where to start.”
Nyla’s frustration flared. “You don’t need a guidebook to care about someone. If you'd invested half the energy
in Hadley that you put into Linda, she wouldn't be in this situation!”
“Grandma?!” Eric was taken aback, a knot of panic tightening in his chest. “What do you mean? Linda and |
aren’t-"
“Enough.” Nyla snorted dismissively. “I'm not interested in arguing with you. I just want to know who Hadley’s
with, and if he treats her right. Understand?”
“Understood,” Eric nodded, his voice small.
He didn’t need Nyla’s instructions-he was already determined to find out.

Later, after leaving the sanatorium, Eric drove Hadley home.
This time, she didn’t wait for him to invite her. She slid into the passenger seat without hesitation.
As the car cruised down the road, Hadley turned to Eric. “When do you think we should go to the courthouse? Let
“Sure,” Eric mumbled, his mind elsewhere.
Trying to sound casual, he added, “You've only been back in Srixby for a few days, and you've already found a
boyfriend? That was quick.”
Hadley paused, but then smiled, “Yes. Relationships aren't about how long you've known someone. You can know
someone for years and still not feel a thing.”
Her words hung in the air.
Eric's gaze darkened. Was she implying something about his lack of feelings for her?
A knot formed in his chest, and he tightened his grip on the steering wheel. “Don’t let love cloud your judgment,
Hadley. Just because a guy’s nice doesn’t mean you should throw your common sense out the window.”
“I won't,” Hadley replied quietly, shaking her head.
“Not many people have treatedwell. After my grandma passed, it was just Nyla and Ernest, back when. This
guy... he’s the third. I'm grateful for him.”
Eric’s breath hitched.
He wanted to say something. What about him? Hadn't he been good to her?
But the words caught in his throat. He hadn't been good to her. In fact, he'd been terrible.
But could he really be blamed? If she hadn't pushed so hard to marry him... Maybe he could have treated her
better.
Frustration bubbled up inside Eric.
“Who the hell is this guy?” he thought. He needed to find out.
That evening, Hadley arrived at Galant as usual.
Lennon slipped into the dressing room with snews. “Hadley, | spoke with Duran. Everything's set up for you.
Just be prepared.”
“Alright.” Hadley took a steadying breath and nodded. “Thanks.”
“No need to thank me,” Lennon replied, his voice carrying a mix of excitement and anxiety. “Down the road, |
might need you to put in a good word forwith Duran.”

Chapter 57 Who is She Seeing
The following day, Hadley made tto visit the hospital
She checked in, waited her turn, and was finally called in to see the doctor.
The doctor paused, tapping the paper as he met Hadley’s gare. “This medication isn’t something you should take
lightly. Follow the prescribed dosage exactly.”
“Got it,” Hadley said.
“If you notice any adverse effects, stop right away and cback to see me.”
“Understood.”
“And,” the doctor added, giving her the prescription, make sure to return for regular follow-ups. I'm responsible
for your care.”
“Alright, thank you. I'm sorry for the trouble.”
Hadley took the prescription, paid at the counter, and picked up her medication from the pharmacy.
She had only gotten in to see this doctor because of Colleen. The truth was, considering her condition, the doctor
wasn't supposed to prescribe these kinds of meds.
But Hadley needed them desperately, so she had relied on Colleen to make it happen.
She was fully aware the medication could cause side effects, but she didn’t have much of a choice
Her condition, the one that made her unable to tolerate being touched, would make it impossible for her to throw
herself into Duran’s arms. And for that reason, she needed such medical help.
