Chapter 523 Claire didn't spare Adah another glance. She climbed straight into the car.

She couldn't even forgive Nathan-so how could she possibly forgive Adah? In her previous life, Adah's cruelty had gone beyond even Nathan's.

Nathan's malice, at least, sprang from the belief that Vanessa was his own flesh and blood. But Adah-Adah had always known Vanessa was adopted, and yet she still chose to humiliate her own daughter for the sake of another.

Coming back to life hadn't erased those memories. Just because she had another chance didn't mean the past could be rewritten.

If she ever forgave Adah and Nathan-those people-then how could she live with herself, knowing Mandy had thrown her life away for revenge? Mandy, who had killed for her sake.

So no, she wouldn't forgive. Not now, not ever.

The car door closed with a soft click, and as the car pulled away, Adah was left standing alone at the curb, staring after it in a daze.

She whispered to herself, "This is what I deserve. I don't deserve your forgiveness." "But still... I don't have much tleft. I just wanted to hear you call'Mom' one last tbefore I go." Adah felt all her strength leave her. Her knees buckled, and she nearly collapsed -until a steady hand reached out to catch her.

She looked up into Ethan's worried eyes.

"Mom, are you alright?" She shook her head weakly. "I'm fine." Ethan had just gotten out of prison-a ten-year sentence. He'd been hless than a month.

Those ten years behind bars had stripped him of all his pride. Oddly, prison had becalmost familiar to him, as though he'd lived that life before. He couldn't explain it. It had been his first tserving time, so why did it feel so familiar? And the nightmares-they never stopped.

Night after night, he dreamed of tormenting his little sister-yelling at her, hitting her. He dreamed of the way Vanessa faked her innocence, and how his whole family had been blind to the truth. In his dreams, he was always hurting his own sister, again and again.

The nightmares lasted the entire decade, haunting him, torturing him, until he was nearly mad with guilt.

He never understood why he kept having those dreams-until he chand finally told his mother about them. That was when Adah told him the truth.

They hadn't just been dreams. It had all really happened before.

In their previous lives, his sister had been abused by her own family until she was left disabled.

No wonder he was plagued by nightmares-he'd committed so many unforgivable sins.

"Mom, Claire won't forgive us. What do we do?" A heavy pressure settled on Adah's chest. Suddenly, a hot metallic taste filled her mouth and nose-she coughed, and blood spilled onto her hand. Her vision went black at the edges.

"Mom!" Ethan shouted, terror in his voice.

Adah gave a bitter, broken laugh. This was karma-retribution for everything she'd done.

At the hospital.

Adah woke slowly, the world blurry and the IV from her hand and climbed out of bed, heading for the door.

pale light. She ripped Just as she reached for the handle, she heard the doctor speaking to Ethan in the hallway.

"Your mother's cancer is advanced. Late-stage. She has, at best, six months left." "Doctor, please—there must be something you can do!"

The doctor sighed. "It's too late. Don't waste your money on false hopen Take her home. Let her spend her thowever she wants."

With that, the doctor walked away, leaving Ethan slumped hopelessly against the wall. The door opened, and Adah stepped out.

Ethan shot upright. "Mom, you... you heard?" Adah nodded. "I heard. I don't want more treatment, Ethan. Let's just go home." "But-" "No buts. It's too late for that now." Suddenly, Adah thought of Claire.

In her previous life, during those

three years with the Linwood family, Claire had never once eaten a proper, hot meal. She went Xungry all day, every day, surviving on scraps and leftovers when she got hfrom school at night.
