Chapter 293 Clara continued, "So now you're saying you had no choice and couldn't speak up? Everything you've done wasn't sincere. How am I supposed to believe you? Do you think saying sorry will makeforget everything? I can't do that, and neither can you." Wren's shoulders slumped in defeat, and the light in his eyes gradually faded. A bitter taste filled his mouth. He had hoped the past few days of being together might ease their relationship, but now, it was clear he had been fooling himself.

Clara had never considered turning back. He was the only one unwilling to move on. Yet, he couldn't let go. Even if she never turned back, he would never let go.

"I'm sorry," Wren said bitterly.

Clara didn't know how to respond. Perhaps he shouldn't have even mentioned it. It would only upset her, and so he dared not press the issue further.

Clara sighed, sitting up and looking at Wren with sincerity. "You don't actually oweanything. You've cared forfor 15 years. That kindness more than makes up for the hurt from that month. Yet, I still can't let go of the pain. Wren, it's really not possible for us anymore." It felt as though a knife had been driven into Wren's heart, twisting painfully through his flesh, leaving him gasping for air.

A bitter, metallic taste filled his throat. He clenched his teeth and swallowed it back, but the expression on his face was one of utter defeat.

Clara saw his pale, defeated expression, and despite the ache in her chest, she continued, "Elsa toldthat you made this scarf yourself." Wren didn't understand why she suddenly brought it up. But after everything they just said, he realized Clara wouldn't bring it up because she was moved by the truth.

As expected, Clara said indifferently, "Don't do this again. Don't waste any more ton me." A bitter smile tugged at Wren's lips, and he swallowed his disappointment. "Alright." Clara turned her gaze back to the window and added calmly, "I'm going to school this afternoon. You can leave. I won't be seeing you off." Wren's smile grew more bitter.

He knew Clara wasn't saying this because she cared about him. She was reminding him that it was tfor him to fulfill his part of their agreement.

She had tolerated his presence in the past few days, and they had coexisted peacefully, but thatwas only because she wanted him to go back to Phoypolis. fo Now that she was well and discharged from the hospital, it was tfor him to fulfill his promise and leave Larkston.

It felt as though something inside Wren had collapsed, leaving only bitterness. "Alright. I'll leave today, just as we agreed."

Clara opened her mouth as if to say something, but the words caught.in her throat, and instead, she said "When we get back to Phoypolis, don't cback here. You don't betong here." Wren bit his lip and didn't respond right away. Just when Clara thought he wouldn't answer, he said, "But you're here."

As long as Clara was here, this place would always feel like hto him. thatWherever Clara was, that was where he belonged. The key was Clara. It always had been Clara.

Clara froze for a second. She looked at the tiny snowflake styck to the car window trying to ignore the sudden flutter in her chest. After that, the car fell into complete silence. Neither of them said another word.

The car pulled up in front of the house Clara had rented. As soon as it stopped, Clara quickly got out.

She lifted her gaze, and in that instant, her eyes met Alexander's, who was standing on the balcony.
